this really developed in the last couple weeks, coming to a close. 2021, springfield, illinois put in for a raise grant, one of the more competitive in d.o.t., very city focused. they had a real crossing as part of a larger real improvement project, all about safety, creating an underpass in a poor part of town. part of that job, the first part was engineering work, labor, operating engineers. we work with a community college for years there and had a priggish mentorship -- pre-apprenticeship program, focused on recruiting women of color. that project had a 30% minority participation for the labor mechanics on that job. exceptional. that is not the end of it, though. as we were digging, our members uncover the charred remains of some houses near the overpass, talked to the engineers. the state archaeologist came in. it turns out that is the remains of the 1908 race riots that occurred. last week, president biden signed that as the latest national monument. our work coming full circle.
