president and ceo of sprint. you were the man responsible last year for getting a deal with softbank come how is it going? >> it is going well. the week ago we announced results and stock was up 11% on the day and 18% over the last week. we had our best net operating income number in the last seven years. 11 quarters in a row of beating on ebitda. our subscriber numbers could be better, we are reengineering our network. >> what has the softbank do thatp allowed you to you could not have done before. what is it going to enable you to do in the future that you were not able to do? long-term.re on the this big network, sprint spark, it will take time and money to do it right. we can take a longer-term perspective. you have an 80% investor who was talking about a 300 year plan -- >> 300. whenever going to get sprint spark in your? -- in new york? >> you have it now. it is taking three frequencies, different networks used in different frequencies and basically we had to rip out everything. this is why our subscriber n

sprint is planning a bid for t-mobile. we are joined now by our international correspondent, hans nichols. and matt campbell is in london. hans, let's start with you. let's figure out exactly what this eel looks like in terms of timeline. how long before we get to a deal being announced? >> according to people familiar june-july iser, when the formal offer would come. it would come from sprint which is owned 80% by softbank. here is the news. you have these executives from sprint who are lining up the financing. they have spoken to six banks. you can look at that as a sign of caution or confidence. caution because they simply want to be ready if and when they get regulatory approval. they have two hurdles to clear, -- to clear. softbank and sprint think they can jam this through. there is a regulatory environment somehow different from 2011 when at&t's attempts u.s., when ite fell through. i would be curious on that and whether he thinks this is caution, confidence or a mix of both. >> i see this as almost a regulatory sto

what do we know so far, alex, about sprint and t-mobile? know there was a meeting earlier this month, the first week of april, where the sprint cfo and their treasurer met with six different banks, including goldman sachs, deutsche bank, bank of america, citigroup, to plan out various different structures for a deal for t-mobile. basically, sprint said we are not ready to announce something yet, but if and when we are, you guys need to be ready with a financing. that was sort of the general topic outline of the meeting. >> alex sherman, what has been some of the specific challenges for sprint mounting a deal for t-mobile? >> the biggest one is regulatory. they have spent the last several months talking to regulators. he was in washington for a decent stretch of time, trying to plead his case to allow this deal. so the fcc and the department of justice would basically look at this and say we are going from four large wireless players to three, why should we do it? it could be anticompetitive for diminishing competition. the biggest challenge
