priya sridhar is at a picket line in georgia. what do we need to know?saying that thousands of amazon workers are walking off the job to the picket lines like the ones you're seeing behind me. amazon is saying these people aren't direct employees, they're third-party contractors and it's not impacting operations. from new york to georgia and california to illinois, teamster workers say drivers for amazon have walked off the job, demanding better pay and working conditions. >> we want every customer to get their package, but we need what we deserved. >> reporter: the teamsters say amazon missed a deadline to negotiate for employees who want sick time, more paid off and wages comparable. amazon says these workers are not their employees and they're seeing protests not strikes at a handful of facilities. amazon says around 1% of its workforce are union members and some people demonstrating actually work for third-party contractors. >> they have hundreds of facilities across the kunlts.co. we're seeing some protests, but very few amazon employees or drivers

joining me now, priya sridhar was outside the carter center in atlanta. and then andrea mitchell is with us as well. what else do we know about the services being planned for jimmy carter? >> reporter: whenever a former president passes away, it is up to the family to determine exactly how they want the funeral services or memorial services to remember and honor his legacy. in this case, we are waiting for the carter center to put out the schedule, that as you mentioned, a state service will be held for former president carter in washington, d.c. on january 9. between now and then, his body will be moved from georgia, which is about three hours away from here in plains, georgia, to atlanta. he will likely stay here in atlanta for a few days. there will be an opportunity for members of the public to pay their respects and see the casket in the meantime, there is a growing memorial that you can see outside of the carter center. people are leaving flowers, candles, a chalkboard, and a jar of peanuts to remember his roots, where he came from, a peanut farming

sridhar: recap of 2024 which has been exceptional.ne investors will be curious about and one piece i'm interested in is the kind of commentary we hear around net interest income. largely because we thought the boom the banks caught with the names went up and there has been some catching up in terms of what you have to pay depositors but generally higher rate environment has been good for nii. the excitation is you are going through rapid rate cuts and that will go down in the boost and the benefit from that will go down. however if you listen to the most recent commentary from the fed they are keeping a watchful eye on what the trump administration policies will do to inflation, the effect of tariffs on inflation. will there be a real effect? you are already getting the sense that rate cuts will not be as rapid and precipitous as we once thought. which again, i would have to think is a beneficial piece of the equation for the banks. carol: sounds like some optimism but certainly we will be keeping a close watch to see if anything chan

priya sridhar, nbc news. a police chase ends in a crash in butte county.he driver, 11 years old, 11. happened yesterday morning near oroville. the chp responded to reports of a reckless driver on highway 99. officers tried to pull over the driver. the driver wouldn't pull over. chico police say the child's guardian called to report that the driver was their 11 year old child. officers later tracked down the driver on highway 70, followed the driver until the driver went through a flooded area, lost control, flipped the vehicle. the child was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. investigators are trying to answer a lot of questions in that case. well, an apology from the bishop in one of the major church sex abuse scandals to rock the bay area survivors reached a rare received a rare face to face apology from the church this week. oakland's bishop addressed survivors, some of whom stepped out of the courtroom when he spoke. investigative reporter candice nguyen also tried speaking with him, and she has tonight's report with oakland diocese atto
