st. john. beautiful island. meantime, in cuba, the death toll now stands at ten. cleanup efforts also under way there. let's get to patrickppmann. where were you during the storm? it you had a direct hit. >>reporter: yes. we were in the north coast of the island. we thought the storm was going to go by us. decided it was going to come to cuba, and it was a devastating blow on the island. all the way up the coast, to have been in the middle of a category 5 hurricane as it was when it hit cuba was an experience i hope not to reteet any time soon. the issues here is that area where we were where that direct hit took place is the center of their tourism industry. hotels badly damaged causeways out. and deprooied the cuban government of badly needed currency. as well a lot of ag turltal industry being based in in that area. it's going require them to import more food to the cuban government prides itself in hurricane preparedness but you cake a hit from a category 5 hurricane that goes up the coast all the way to havana, and there's really no way to prepare for that. so the good news is the airport is opening today. allow tour
