that river is cresting near st. louis. the river that we're now worried about is more of the illinois river. it's going to crest in peoria on tuesday. that's where we could have more destruction done and millions of dollars and south of there as we go into wednesday. again, the mississippi, it's cresting now just north of st. louis. and it should go down from here. looking at the weather pattern over the west, trying to think about, you know, what's interesting, what's going to happen, what concerns do we have. it's really going to be a very quiet weather period. we'll have morning clouds to deal with in a few coastal areas of california. other than that, here's a map that's given to us by our government estimating the precipitation in the week ahead. the green shows you where it will be light rain around the country. the blue and darker blues and purple shows you where the heavy rain will be. look at the west from california to oregon to washington, over the next week, you'll be hard pressed to any raindrops at all beside

as matt from our st. louis, even more rain is on the way. >> reporter: it has literally taken an army of volunteers, the national guard and even prisoners to do everything they issocl keep the water out of but as the mississippi river rises on the other side of that rock and sand wall, the concern is still growing on this side that the river will win out and flood this small town. in the overnight hours, volunteers have been working hard to shore up and strengthen that floodwall which has shown signs of weakening and even leaks. clarksville is like many towns along the mississippi river this week that are experiencing flooding after last week's torrential rains in the midwest. and while that floodwall is holding now here in clarksville, the worry is still here because there is more rain in the forecast. >>> some evacuated residents living near the fertilizer plant that exploded in texas are being let back into their homes. those living closest are still being kept away as investigators search the site for clues

there's 42,000 people in st. louis still without power right now. >> in arkansas, a twister tore a path 30 miles wide through van buren county. that's about 75 miles north of little rock. at least 13 homes, a church and a business were damaged there. three people were injured. luckily, no deaths have been reported in this area, which is mostly rural. but nerves have been rattled. >> that's a mass. and major storms are rumbling through much of the southern and the eastern united states. let's bring in samantha moore. who is seeing the worst of this morning? >> all the way from corpus chris christi, texas, to detroit, we're seeing strong thunderstorms this hour. a lot of lightning that's kept people up. we have the threat moving into the nashville area, within the next hour. it has been a very loud night in memphis and in paducah, kentucky, as the line of strong thunderstorms moved on through. and in houston, also, a very nasty start to the day. just look at that. i mean, literally thousands of lightning strikes overnigh

our nbc affiliate ksdk in st. louis county on the banks of the mississippi river where i understand they are bracing for significant flooding there. grant what do you have? >> reporter: yeah, craig. you know, there's already quite a bit of flooding along the mississippi river. that's causing ate of problems with barge companies at this point. check out the scene behind me. that barge you see in the middle of the mississippi river is one of 114 that broke away from its moorings in the port of st. louis late last night, around 10:30. what the coast guard told me today is that it broke loose and basically flowed downstream in his high water with enough force to crash into other barges along the riv around eventually more nan 100 started floating down-stream. the main concern in missouri, structures downstream would be struck by the barges. the jefferson barracks bridge that connects missouri to illinois. this bridge was struck at least four times by barges. the missouri department of transportation had to shut down this br

it has crested in st. louis, you see the current stage, 28 feet flood stage, certainly lower than that. it's the red river at fargo. the red river actually flows north. the river is downstream of fargo, and the temperatures are incredibly warm. look at fargo, in the 70s. they have not been at 50 degrees for 155 days and all of a sudden yesterday they got to 70. now the problems, of course, the snow pack. there is between 8 and 16 inches of snow there ready to melt to all go into the water. the snow will melt and the runoff will increase and the river will jump. that's the biggest problem. and then there comes the rain. a wet weekend here in the southeast, poppy, but for you on the northeast, a nice saturday and then the mid-atlantic gets wet on sunday and boston stays dry in new england. >> i kno going to be a warm and beautiful day here, but i am wondering when. i have the heat warmers in my pocket because it has not warmed up here yet this morning, but another beautiful day here in boston. >> you will be able

jim spellman live in st. louis. >> reporter: good morning, christine.lustery windy morning. there is a boat docked in here. none of this usually underwater. about five feet above flood levels at this point. could have gone another four feet. that was the projection last week. the refer is cresting in st. louis. it will crest in other parts of the country. they feel guardedly optimistic they won't see widespread damage here. in fargo, north dakota, the story is warm spring temperatures melting snow. getting the sandbags out and getting ready for flooding up there in fargo as you mentioned. four people dead so far from this flooding, a fifth person missing up near peru, illinois. she was last seen on friday. in aerial photographs stuck, surrounded by water near her vehicle. they hope they can get to restart their searching once this weather clears up a little bit. this is a story all throughout the upper midwest down to the south, christine. >> all right, jim spell blank, live this morning. thanks, jim. >>> still ahead, boylston street opening up. live in
