and matthew chance joins us now from st. petersburg. id comment on prigozhin's death yesterday. what are russian authorities saying today about the investigation? >> reporter: yesterday putin asked the country to, you know, not hold back judgment, essentially, until the outcome of that investigation. today investigators say they've recovered the black boxes from the aircraft, the embraer legacy 500 with yevgeny prigozhin and nine other people on board. they say they've taken the human remain asway, ten bodies they've recovered, and they're doing dna tests and forensic tests to try to confirm positively exactly the identities of those people on board. so, ultimately soon hopefully we should get official confirmation that it was indeed yevgeny prigozhin on board that aircraft and that he is actually dead. at the moment, they're not officially confirming that. it's a very odd situation to be in. >> matthew, how's the media in russia covering this? >> reporter: well, i mean, they covered the crash, obviously. and they've covered the things t

matthew chance is live in st. petersburg there near a memorial for prigozhin. was a man of difficult fate. tell us more about these remarks. >> reporter: yeah, i mean, he said he had a difficult fate, and that's often a sort of euphemism in russia for somebody who had a hard life. he had a criminal past. of course, yevgeny prigozhin was in jail for some years during the soviet era. and so it was a reference to that. putin also said that prigozhin in his life, although he was a talented businessman, made some serious mistakes. he didn't directly reference the leading of an armed uprising against the kremlin two months ago, but clearly that was, in retrospect, huge mistake by yevgeny prigozhin. he is very fondly remembered in st. petersburg in the sense that t there is this makeshift memorial that sprung up here in his home city right outside the wagner headquarters from where all the operations were controlled here in st. petersburg. it's not a huge thing. but there are memorials like this popping up all over the country in various cities from where wagner drew t

st. petersburg. a growing pop-up memorial sits outside the wagner group headquarters where cnn senior international correspondent matthewr look at some of the tributes. >>> people are streaming through laying sort of flowers like this, putting photographs of prigozhin. there's one there that says, in russian, it says in this hell he was the best. and so people talking about him, of course, very much in the past tense. over here if we look, wagner, arm patches, wagner chevrons here that have been put all over the place. you're seeing a lot of people, family members of people who are in wagner, wagner soldiers themselves coming here to pay their respects. this woman here, i don't know whether she speaks english -- [ speaking in a non-english language ] she's not -- doesn't want to speak to us. it's not -- quite solemn situation. there's another photograph of prigozhin over there. this is very interesting because somebody here, look, has put this really heavy, really heavy sledgehammer here with wagner written on it. the sledgehammer, of course, a potent symbol of the extreme violence that wagner represented, and it's -- i

st. petersburg today. prigozhin of course killed in a plane crash on august 23rd. two months to the day since staging a mutiny against russian president vladimir putin. cnn's matthew chance is at the grave site for prigozhin. matthew, quite a sight to see there. tell us what you are seeing. >> reporter: well, it's been quite an extraordinary day, brianna. the authorities have gone to huge lengths to try and cover up where the funeral was going to actually take place. they put security barricades and metal detectors outside other cemeteries in st. petersburg. meanwhile, the actual funeral took place here about an hour drive outside of st. petersburg, the russian city. you can see we've come here now, we're not allowed into the cemetery, but there's all these security guards, actually members of the national guard. there's armed sort of snipers outside the various perimeter points as well. so they're imposing really tight security on this entire area to make sure that people don't go in, presumably so people don't go in and pay their respects. i don't quite know why, but obviously they're very insecure indeed about that. i just want to show you the closest we can ge

matthew murray reports. it was just after 10.30 at night when the ford fiesta left the road which runs alongside the campsite here at newgale near stdge between the campsite field and the road, just this small bank and a ditch. the car rolled three times before landing on top of several people who were sitting outside their tent. the owner of the campsite, mike harris, told me the car also rolled over a tent where a baby was sleeping, but the child was protected by his cot. there was carnage. there were people bewildered, people in shock, people who didn't know what was going on. and there were people that were injured, screaming and asking for help. the immediate concern for everybody was what happened to the baby. and when they went into the tent, the cot was there and had managed to protect the baby from any injuries, which is another miracle to be fair. the skid marks from the car are just behind me on the road here. now, i've seen the cctv footage as well from the campsite. it shows the car losing control, spinning 180 degrees and then rolling onto the campsite here. it rolled three times before ending up at its final destinat
