st. paul's school, owen labrie was able to walk out of the courtroom free on bail as his attorneys file for an appeal. but as wmur's heather hamel explains, even if the appeal is successful, he still serves time. heather joins us now with more. reporter: yes, the judge made it clear that his suspended felony sentence of they have and a half to seven years would be the only thing vacated. but for the defense it the requirement of registering a a sex offender that concerns them the most. prison time or not, labrie was required to register as a sex offender immediately yesterday. he was found guilty of using a computer to lure the then 15-year-old girl to meet him where he sexually assaulted her. the law dates back to 1998 and one legal expert told us that while the jury was justified in convicting labrie, the way the enough and inadvertently includes situations like this case which he believes was not the intent of the law. >> they were thinking about older male, younger teen-age or younger vulnerable girl and male establishing, older male establishing a relationship through the internet, thr
