stacey: it's guilty on all counts for ngor makuey. the 20-year-old beat to death 97-year-old rupert anderson with . he also beat rupert's wife, home in july 2014. makuey's attorney used the insanity defense during the trial. but witnesses said they saw no signs of mental illness. the judge said the spatula he brought from his home showed premeditation. judge farrell: he wasn't going over there to cook. he wasn't going over there to grill. he went over there, and the first thing he did was club rupert anderson over the head with that spatula, multiple times. stacey: maukey was found guilty of first degree murder, assault with intent to commit serious injury, robbery, and theft. he faces a mandatory life sentence for the murder conviction and will be sentenced january 4. steve: a des moines woman faces child endangerment charges after police say she left her three infant children alone in a car in a walmart parking lot. 24-year-old briana webb was charged on thursday. an off-duty police officer says several customers alerted him. the ca

stacey: police are investigating two home invasions in one week. we on how to protect your home during the holidays. amy: two recent home invasions are catching the attention of law enforcement. the first happened on tuesday. >> they entered a home, overpower the residence, that in at least one of them with a firearm, and then they stole electronics. amy: the second on friday. spaghetti jar, pushed down the stairs, and robbed. >> he invited him in his home after he said he needed to use the phone to call for help, and that the suspect attacked the victim. >> police say the incidents were unrelated but carry one common theme -- >> you have victims in their home, and someone took advantage of them, committed that crime within their safe space. >> whomever in to the home on 32nd street still remains a mystery. police say remember that robberies tend to increase during the holiday season. >> we encourage people be alert, keep an eye on your neighbors, lock your doors. if you see anything suspicious or anything that seems out of place, give us a call. m

stacey: a developing situation in missouri tonight as the , rivers near st. louis are expected to crest tomorrow. todd: 21 people have died in the floods. marlie hall has the latest for us tonight from valley park, missouri. marlie: rising floodwaters washed over roads, homes, and businesses. firefighters rescued one man trapped on top of his pickup truck. >> if we can say anything over and over, it would be to not drive into water. marlie: at least a half dozen houses were lost south of st. louis where the meramac and mississippi rivers meet. carla bryant organized residents to save as many homes as possible. have done everything we can and we still can't beat it. marlie: in valley park, volunteers tried to protect this business, which is only a block away from a levee. >> the levee behind us has only a foot to go and then there will be some flooding. marlie: sandbags are often no match for raging rivers. forecasters say flood waters are rising more than one inch per hour in some communities. nearly 20 levees along the mississippi river and its tributaries c

stacey: the exterior of the state historical building is crumbling. the roof leaks, buckets line the floor to catch the rain. the iowa department of cultural affairs says it will take 65 million dollars to renovate the building over the next few years. the department is asking the legislature to approve 9 million dollars in the upcoming session. new information about the state's plan to privatize medicaid. federal officials ordered the state of iowa to delay the switch until march 1. state officials had planned to make the switch in january. the federal centers for medicare and medicaid services says iowa needs more time to make the switch. stacey: ripplealso the state may -- also the state may not save , as much from privatizing the iowa department of human resources says it now hopes to save in the first 6 month. $47 millionthat is more then $4 billion less than previous estimates. mark: a des moines teenager, charged with beating his grandmother to death appeared in , court this afternoon. with family members showing their support, 17-year-old noah
