that's where fox 5's stacey cohan is standing by with more details. good morning, stacey. reporter: good morning. it's been over a year since that recording first made headlines around the country, even some international headlines because of the sensational nature of a politician's wife stuffing cash in her undergarments. now that politician, jack johnson will be heading to federal prison. he hears his sentence today from federal judge peter maseti. he could be sent to prison right away or they could set a future date at which he is to surrender to authorities. it is unclear at this point what is going to happen. of course he was accused of and pled guilty to accepting bribes. there are videotapes of him accepting stacks of cash from developers and it is to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars reportedly, the long- term gain from this corruption scheme. one of the audiotapes caught jack johnson talking about possible prosecution. >> got a lot of political enemies emies reporter: according to sentencing sentencing guidelines, he could get up to 14 years in prison.

reporting live, i'm stacey cohan. back to you. >> thank you very much. >>> new this morning, montgomery county police on the scene of a possible break-in at a sears store in white oaks shopping center. a store alarm went off after 12:30 this morning. police are currently on the hunt for suspects inside and outside that building. as soon as we get more information on this one, we'll pass it along to you. >>> the search is back on for a sanitation worker who disappeared friday. charles duckett went out to retrieve a dead deer at the triadelphia water shed. his boat returned with the deer inside, but duckett was nowhere to be found. crews from several agencies have been searching the area since then. duckett's family and friends spoke out over the weekend. >> we thank those who have spent the last few days looking for chuck. it means a lot that so many people have been searching and we hope the search will continue. we are not giving up. please help us find him and keep him in your prayers until we do. >> montgomery coun

our own stacey cohan is there live now. what's the latest, stacey? reporter: the latest is the water is still here, it's not going anywhere. it is just as full and beautiful, sparkling right across the roadway as it has been all day. we just saw a car go into the county courthouse. you are able to enter it if you're coming from downtown upper marlboro into the county courthouse now although there is a sign that says road closed, i've seen they've allowed a couple of cars in this way. if you are trying to access the courthouse, water avenue, the route 4, pennsylvania avenue, that's not happening for you. the water, as you can see, is just completely wiped out the roadway. now, it's interesting. you can see there's a bridge somewhere underneath that water and as i was reporting all morning about work-arounds for this water, one young man challenged me with an interesting dilemma. here's what he had to say. >> can't get to work because i usually catch the bus here to the courthouse and i take the short 10-minute walk to the kfc. now as you see, it's pre

we get more now from fox 5's stacey cohan from the courthouse. reporter: it really does rock prince george's county. if you think about it, this man has been at the top of the county level of government for 16 years. he spent eight years as a top prosecutor, eight years as county executive and now it looks like he's heading to federal prison. quite a turn of events. it appears that federal authorities have been investigating him nearly since he took office as county executive under suspicion of bribery. of course, he is videotaped and autopsied accepting bribes from developers, exchanging favors. some reports have it almost to a million dollars in bribes accepted by jack johnson. they claim that it was a pay-to- play procedure in his government that he ran and just 24 days before his term ended he was taped exchanging cash, accepting a bribe from a laurel developer. he could be seen flipping through the cash and talking later that day about possible prosecution. >> he had a lot of political enemies and they called them various profiteers. profite

. >> fox 5's stacey cohan is in upper marlboro this morning where streets are closed. good morning, stacey. reporter: good morning. i am telling you, people, when a sign says road closed, please don't go around it. we had a whole bunch of cars sitting here, turning around, making new turns, people are still trying to come in here to access this and they're being turned back by road crews. so you cannot access route 4 pennsylvania avenue via water street coming through upper marlboro. you also cannot access marlboro from pennsylvania avenue. this is not a thru road this, is a mini river. actually in daylight we can see there's an incredible amount of water down there. so crews are doing their best to block off the road and to dissuade traffic from coming down here. we did have a problem as daylight broke and rush hour kicked in for people going through the road closure signs and cut through. i don't know if you saw that spray that car kicked up turning into the entrance to the courthouse, but there is quite a bit of standing water. there are ways around. you can get to t

stacey cohan is at howard with the details. >> reporter: the question of this lawsuit is whether or not the university did enough to protect students. the students, at least two female students, say no. that is why they are suing the university. that civil lawsuit was filed yesterday. now, this all began apparently with reports of sexual assault and harrassment. it focuses on a worker for the school, george bright abu. he ran a work-study program here. several female students claimed he sexually harassed them, that he salted them, that he groped them and they say that the university failed to act upon their complaints. >> around april, mr. bright abu called me into his office. he said he wanted me to help him with some works. he then started touching me and saying appropriate things to me. >> she was crying and a little shaken up. she came up to me and told me what happened. at that point be i felt like something needed to be done. >> reporter: howard university disputes the claim that they failed to act saying that as soon as they were made aware of the allegations, the university offi

where stacey cohan is this morning. >> reporter: a very scary evening for residents here of the clay300 block. this started about 7:00 last night where the man was wandering around just firing a gun. witnesses say he would fire shots in the air, at homes and then put the gun away for some times before bringing it out again and starting the process all over. now, police were called out to the scene for reports of this man firing a weapon. some people thought he was high on drugs. we talked to police chief kathy lanier about why she believes this may have happened, this man firing what could be as many as 30 gunshots. >> there were several calls that came in. first, for a man with a gun shooting at the houses. then calls came in for a person high on pcp firing a weapon. as officers enterrd the block, they heard the gunfire and observed the subject with a gun firing. >> reporter: now, when the man refused to drop his weapon, they did fire on him. cpr was performed on the suspect at the scene although he later died. they do suspect that pcp or perhaps some other drug was involved but we

let's get more now from stacey cohan. >> reporter: steve, this is a man who spent a very long time atlevel of government here in prince george's county. he was a prosecutor. it was his job to put people behind bars and then eight years as county executive and now he will be learning how much time he will be spending in prison. last night was probably his last night as a free man for quite some time. he will be before judge peter massettey at 9:30 this morning. he did plead guilty in the corruption charges. this was a long-term federal investigation of what authorities have described as a pay to play culture in the prince george's county government in which jack johnson accepted bribes from developers an others in return to numerous favors. there have been audiotapes and videotapes of deals he was taking. bribe showing him accepting cash and thumbing through the cash. his wife was also involved. she pled guilty to evidence tampering after flushing a $100,000 check down the toilet as federal agents arrived at the couple's home last year. >> i have 24 days. >> yeah, the time flies by. >>
