stan and mindy? >> thank you. new this morning city police officer is crfercroing from injuries after being struck by a car in east baltimore. >> officers were called to the scene just before midnight the 3,000 block of cavalry street reports an officer and woman were struck. the woman who was a passenger was dragged when she tried to get out of the vehicle. the woman was taken to hopkins for a treatment. >> police discovered a carjacking. >> and within moments they became witness to a deadly crash as the suspect tried to flee. jennifer franciotti joins us live from city police headquarters with more on this tragic story. >> police say the suspect was traveling at a very high rate of speed when he hit a nissan, caused it to flip over several times, killing the woman inside. this all unfolded about 3:00 p.m. when the alleged carjacker was spotted at mlk and mulberry. police went after the vehicle but they called off the pursuit for safety reasons. the suspect continued on and collided with the nissan. that car flip

at one point, stan flew west 265 degrees all alone. at 9:17 that morning, john waldron solve the japanese fleet to emerge from the nest. straight ahead. and george, they called him tex. that's him in the center. rusty wrote that letter to his wife, just to the left of him. george flying in the squadron leader wrote waldron had taken them to the japanese fleet as if they were at the end of the line. watching them come on, the commander operations officer noted they looked like a group of waterfowl flying across the lake slowly across the lake. he was absolutely amazed they were coming alone and unsupported. we won't go in, wallgren radioed to the others, we won't turn back. at that point dozens of japanese flying high cover for the ford lead carriers swarmed down around the slow-moving tiffin staters and one by one they began to fall. he watched waldron die. a burst of cannon fire ignited one of the tanks and the plane began gliding down to the sea trailing smoke and flames. as he watched waldron suddenly stood up in the blazing cockpit

over to you, stan and mindy. >> thank you. our big story, the first step towards putting speed camera can baltimore county gets underway tonight. >> while police are stressing the cameras will make roads safer, many will voice their opposition. 11 news reporter jennifer franciotti live with that story. >> under state law speed cameras can only be placed in school zones. in baltimore county there are over 200 that apply. 214 school zones are being assessed right now. baltimore county police are preparing for speed camera installations if the measure passes down the road. a private vendor runs the camera and collects a portion of the ticket but the county also gets part of the cut. >> the police department's focus is on public safety. i have not been part of any conversation or gatherings discussing what revenues may be generated from this. in fact, if our motorists abide by the law, we'll generate nothing. >> and not everyone thinks speed camera is the way to go. baltimore county police are working on these possible installatio

stan o'neill made $50 million in 2006. this is right before the whole thing hit the fan. >> how well did their companies do as a consequence. >> in 2006 merrill link was nearly bankrupt. in 2007 bear stearns nearly went bankrupt and actually did. it was a run on the bank in 2008. >> explain to me how you think capitalism is supposed to work. we believe that people should make whatever they can make because they are managing their companies well, creating useful products, contributing to the prosperity of america. can o'neill made enormous amounts of money compared to most of us. their companies went bankrupt. >> was capitalism working? >> i think it was to a certain extent. you can't regulate greed. you have to essentially kill everybody on the planet because it's a basic human instinct. some of us have more than others. if you want to regulate greed, good luck. you need a bigger government than barack obama ever envisioned. >> do you think that that -- the compensation system contributed to bad decisionmaking? >> absolute

stan, how did this come about? what do you do? >> well, it's the whole idea was born when i lived down in the amazon, larry. and had a very bad accident with a wild horse, and when they were pulling me out from underneath the horse, they said the nearest doctor from here is 26 days on foot. it was about that time that i got the inspiration for trying to bring those doctors just a little bit closer. >> larry: and that led to this? so how does this work? what's behind you? >> well, you know, i formed this organization to provide care in the other situations around the world. but shortly after we started, i started getting requests to bring care to some of the areas in rural america. and that was many years ago. and it's just sort of grown from there, and now 64% of all of the work we do is here in the united states and so we're sort of backing off from some of the places where we really need to be like in haiti and zimbabwe because of the pressure here from all of the millions of patients that need the care we give free of charge. >

it's quite a common border that people do cross into kurt stan. it's the mountainous area in northern iraq, a popular tourist destination for backpackers, people looking for something a little different. the americans stay in kurt stan between tuesday and friday staying mostly in hotels. it was on friday that the three decided to go camping along the border with iran. this is not a very clearly defined border. but it was a very sensitive border for iran. according to iranian television that's when the three americans who have not been identified by the state department. but curtis officials say their name are all in their 20s or early 30s crossed into iran. it's unclear if they knew they were in iran. the u.s. state department has contacted switzerland which represents u.s. interests in iran. there's no diplomatic relations directly between the u.s. and iran. so the united states has asked switzerland to investigate and see what it can do about securing their release. >> richard, what are the reports about a fourth person involved with this group?

all eyes now are on general stan mccrystal, who was given 60 days to review the situation on the groundafter taking over as the top u.s. commander there. defense secretary robert gates and admiral mike mullen asked mcchrystal to meet them for a sec ket face to face this week at a u.s. military base 12 miles north of nato headquarters in belgium. they wanted an interim report. chief david petraeus also through in. august 14, mcchrystal will deliver his strategy to the head of nato and gates and the assessment will reportedly involve a request for more u.s. troops. >> from everything i have seen, it looks like the afghan army has to be increased and significantly, and that's going to be a huge cost, and i -- it appears as if we need more troops. >> but how many, and will the president agree? the issue is politically sensitive in washington where the new administration worries afghanistan will become president obama's quagmire. >> much like iraq, we cannot be there forever. afghans are going to have to provide a measure of their own security, much as we're asking iraqis to do, and that the
