dean winslow with stanford healthcare spoke to us today. >> a lot of people in the united states report food allergies, and minor allergies including hayfever, but none of those would be contraindications to this vaccine, since none of those components really are a part of either of the vaccines that are available now. it is of some concern that this virus variant that has about a dozen mutations in both the binding site despite protein and the virus as well as elsewhere in the genome does appear to be more transmissible between people. but it does not appear to be more variant or cause more severe disease and so far there is no evidence that the vaccines that we have will not be protective against this particular strain, so again, we are not particularly concerned about that. there are about a dozen mutations that appear to exist in this virus that was recently described in the united kingdom. again i think a majority of these mutations are actually in the binding site or the spike protein, the capsule, of the virus and then there are a few other mutations elsewhere in the virus genome
