santa barbara has brought in officers from other uc campuses to help with patrols in the new school year. >>> 7:45. a new cancer drug developed by stanfordrchers may one day replace chemotherapy as a cancer treatment. the san francisco chronicle reports this drug appears to interrupt the process that causes cancer cells to spread through the body. the experimental therapy has only been tested in mice. it may be years before it's approved for use in hue maps. researchers -- humans. researchers say the drug appears promising because it doesn't have the same side effects associated with chemo like severe nausea. >>> governor jerry brown vetoed a bill that would have limited the state's ability to seize assets from the estates of medi- cal recipients. the san jose mercury news reports the state is currently allowed to recover the costs of healthcare including nursing home costs from a medi-cal beneficiary's estate. many weren't aware of the practice when they signed up under the new healthcare law. but officials say if governor brown had signed the bill it would have resulted in the annual loss of $15 million to the state's general fund. >>>
