[applause] >> thank you for being here. i have written about franklin roosevelt before, the last book wrote about him was about the 1944 four term presidential campaign when he ran for the fourth term, we were near the end of world war ii and many soldiers, 11 million in uniform voted by absentee ballot. i wanted to find out how they voted and why they voted the way they did and so i had teams of people around the country and on my own, also asked people who lived through that period how they voted and quite a number of them especially those who had been sailors said i voted for roosevelt because he was a navy man. that surprised me. i hadn't expected that. died decided after that i would find out what kind of but navy man he was so this book is the result. the subject for a future book emanates from the previous book where the research for the previous book, no better example could be found than he was the navy man which i don't think he expected to be at navy man at the start though he wanted to go to annapolis. his fathe
