elizabeth cady stanton had a really interesting case. she believed in a level of social equality, certainly political equality between black and white people. that was kind of a long and sad story. i do not know if you guys have gotten into the post-war period yet. there was going to be in a memo -- amendment to the constitution to give both black people and women the vote. a congressman went to frederick douglass and said, we are prepared to give black people the votes, but if you insist on attaching women to this, no one is going to pass this. i think elizabeth cady stanton never forgave him for that. she was really upset. she then goes out and campaigns to get the women's issues attached back to the amendment.
