our view is that increasingly, it falls in the consumer staples camp.you start to look at consumer staples names, we think you can justify multiples that get you closer to 30 times, which is what we are currently using to get to our target price. lisa: does that mean at this point, people are not looking for apple to necessarily innovate with the apple watch or some other product, that really it has to do with ongoing revenues from either iphone sales or from the services you can get on the iphone that will determine the future revenues? william: i think that is a great point. these services now, 20% of revenue, growing north of 20%. it has a much higher than average post margin, and that is a big part of the story in terms of driving higher multiples than what it has traded at historically. our expectation is that could continue. last quarter we reported close to 660 billion paid subscriptions on the platform. that is a number that continues to rise every quarter. that is why it is critical that services like apple tv plus and things down the road cont

yields have come down over the last four months, you have not gotten even a hint of leadership from staplesilities. staples underperformed when bond yields were rising the first part of the year and they have underperformed again as bond yields fell the second part of the year. that's just not leadership from these defensive groups. tom: which faang has the best chart? i know you don't talk individual stocks because we are wearing base suits. -- bay suits. >> on a little curious about apple. apple has not made new relative highs versus the s&p. the weakest of the faang charts has been netflix. we think netflix is putting in a big top. there is some distinction being paid among some of these names. when you look away from the big fangs, there is a look -- a book of stocks we call the baby faang. those have not kept pace with some of the bigger names. tom: does that go to cash flow? do your charts say profit and quality matter right now? >> mike kelly did some really good work yesterday looking at the faang names -- my colleague did some really good work yesterday looking at the faang names.

i think consumer staples, one of our market weight sectors, is when you want to watch very closely inport in this report and season because consumer staple companies feel these margin pressures much more than a lot of other sectors, not just from labor, but from the commodity cost inputs. i also got the impression this last reporting season that there is no other sector more on top of this issue and laser focused on managing around it. so i think it is really interesting to see how the stoxx react to the reports from those companies in particular. guy: how much volatility are you accepting over the summer? a couple of weeks ago, people were talking about the market going to sleep. doesn't feel like that anymore. lori: someone on my team this morning described it as just a weird market, and there's a lot of wild stuff going on underneath the surface. i think i share that view, even though we continue to creep higher. i think this market at the end of the day is not one that is able to really digest bad news. we see that in terms of extended valuations, extended positioning , these peak

utilities, consumer staples in the absence of the yield from treasuries. they are getting it in the stock market. romaine: we always obsess over these one-day moves and today is sort of the worst day. there is a general sense. people have not been exiting the market. you sell the dip come in today. we closed lower. what does that tell you generally about sentiment? kriti: there is a lot of action first of all. there is also a lot of cash on the sideline. people are buying the dips but they are also selling the peak. there is a very volatile movement. it is interesting to see this was the reaction to a plethora of risks. you have the delta variant. right now, all the focus is going to be on the fed should there is going to be -- romaine: does this have anything to do with powell today? caroline: yesterday, they were like he is dovish. romaine: powell was in person for this at hearing today. yesterday, they did over zoom. -- they did over zoom. kriti: i don't know about that. i can't get into politics. romaine: you have a question? caroline: i do have a ques

consumer staples are still up.nsive, away from the cyclical trade what do you do with the stocks >> i would agree they would be good long-term force folio positions to look at they're out and about, doing something with ourselves, dressing up and buying products that sort of get back to life. the other thing is consumer spending is up, right? it's either going to go into the market or consumer discr discretionary. i like the sector. >> one minute to go before the close. what are you seeing in the market internals the session low was down over 200. actu actually more than 2 to 1 to the down side. overall volume is not that high, but definitely decliners take a look at the equal-weighted 1,000 against the s&p on a year-to-date basis. the stock is really outperforming, performing through the spring, it's come back a lot this is one of the complaints about how it's been a narrower market the vix looks like it's got a bit of a bid, and august is the month we obvious see a bit of upturn in volatility [ bell ringing ] >>
