starbucks shares down to 9%. we break down the earningings right now and the outlook with the man in charge, howard schultz. we want to get into your very vocal dissatisfaction in general with both parties on the state of the jobs market and the direction of the country. let's talk first about your business and what happened in earnings, characterize the quarter for us, howard. >> i think if you look at it on it's own merit, and you didn't know what the consensus was, 19% increase in eps, and 7% u.s. komp growth, you say what a fantastic quarter. however, we missed our estimate. i think that personally every one at starbucks does, but we're dealing with significant economic and global head winds. but there is no excuses, you know, star bucks had a very good quarter, and now we're preparing for holiday. >> no doubt that the world changes and has shone deterioration. howard, why did you see the most deterioration. is it the europe story? is it a slow down in china? the u.s. problems? where are you seeing the most p

shares of starbucks get whacked to the tune of 9% off of earnings. those results have investors are worried about consumers for high end coffee. green mountain in particular. green mountain reports on wednesday. option implies a huge move. some have called this stock the greatest short of all time. in his "options action" debut, herb greenberg is here to tell you why many believe it's still the case. he's working the midnight oil. herb, take it away. >> to the bears. to the bears this just seems to be a business model on borrowed time. the key thing to remember from green mountain is that it is a one product company. it makes its money off k cups and the patents on those k cups are starting to run out. when the company reports earnings on wednesday, pay special attention to margins and sales growth. competitors are already in the market with cheaper k cups alternatives and green mountain is believed to be slicing prices just to protect their share. all of that is leading to widespread k cup discounting. this is important. clients have been told that
