, now you've got the starbucks. starbucks employees in three major cities l.a., chicago and seattle. they are unionized. they have had a, i guess, been working on a negotiations for several months now. they're striking because starbucks has not come to the table to finalize this deal. what's the fight here so so like the warehouse workers in staten island, the amazon workers, starbucks workers have waged and won hundreds and hundreds of union organizing campaigns across the country. >> once there's a union in place, the employer here. starbucks has a legal obligation to sit down and bargain a contract. and starbucks is dragging its feet. has been doing that for years, and the workers are saying it's enough. it's time to cut a deal. and they're insisting that starbucks do that. my understanding is that one of the major sticking points in the starbucks negotiations is just as simple as wages. that starbucks is proposing a wage increase that's lower than inflation, which means from the workers lived perspective, they'r

starbucks workers on strike. matt finn. >> if you head to your local starbucks this morning you might find it is closed like this facility in burbank here in california. on the front door our store is temporarily closed. on the inside we can see stacks of unopened merchandise boxes piling up. all morning long we have seen customers pull up to this location to discover they won't be getting their caffeine fix at this particular spot. the strike is now spreading to nine states. the starbucks barista union represents more than 10,000 employees saying they are striking because of unpredictable schedules and unfair pay. demanding in part $20 an hour and company-paid healthcare. starbucks says those demands are unsustainable. the coffeemakers say they consider themselves partners in the multi-billion dollar starbucks company and they deserve better. >> our hope is that this will -- they will come back to the bargaining table and give us livable wages so we can afford to pay our rent and groceries and afford to live. >>

how is starbucks responding to workers? >> so starbucks is a different scenario because they do recognize over 500 unionized stores, and they have been negotiating since february. starbucks says that they are disappointed that the union has called this strike at this time during the holidays. but the union says we have been giving you a deadline of the end of the year, and we have not gotten the economic contract package that we want. the union saying that they've only offered up to 2% in wage increases. the union looking for more. starbucks says they're ready to get back to the negotiating table. but with both of these strikes, obviously timing is everything. and for them, the timing is now around the holidays when amazon and starbucks stand to make a lot of money. they're looking to disrupt this holiday season. whether or not it works economically, we'll see. but just the perception of all of us knowing what's going on raises the profile about what these two groups are trying to do. >> and i should note right now, we're j
