so you're talking about pretty stark differences. and there are all sorts of implications from that that i explore in the book. one is this idea if you're the only black doctor, many medical centers in hospitals are in these communities with very large black populations. north carolina, to the durham, duke is -- population's about 40% african-american. i see someone here with a pitt shirt in philadelphia, and that's another elite medical school and probably like 50% black, and baltimore is 60% black, and there's johns hopkins. there's this thing that's replicated all throughout the country where you have these medical centers where doctors are being trained, but they're in communities that have this really large african-american population. there's often a tension between the communities and these institutions. so i explore that, you know, in quite a bit of depth. so what often happened for me is you're in this community where there's a large black community, and patients will often want to see a african-american physician. not alway
