my state of ohio has had more overdose deaths from heroin, oxycontin, oxy codone, percocet, opioids -- morphine-based opioids. we've had more deaths than any other state in the united states of america. more people die from the opioid epidemic. 91 americans -- 12 ohioans will die today. 91 americans, 12 ohioans will die today from opioid overdose. the commissioner has a lot of tools to fight this epidemic that's ravaging our families and our communities. we need all hands on deck to fight this crisis. we need the f.d.a. unfortunately, dr. gottlieb's record indicates he would not take the epidemic and the f.d.a.'s authority to rein in prescription painkillers and other drugs seriously, which is why i cannot support his nomination. i don't want to point fingers, but there are -- ther there area whole host of reasons for this epidemic. one of them clearly is the proliferation of prescriptions and the manufacturer of so many of these -- and the manufacture of so many of these opioids. they're getting to market, and doctors prescribing them and pharmacists filling them. i don't point finge

governor kasich, welcome back. >> thanks, charlie. >> what impact will the budget have on the state of ohionificant but it won't pass. congress sends up a budget and they fiddle around. two authentics to keep in mind. we have a program in ohio to say we will help you but we need you to take responsibility. the problem is you can't take stuff away when people need to be healthy, they need to be fed. so it's not just a one-way street. it has to be both ways. the other thing is congress will play around with this thing. we don't know where it will end if they don't come to grips with debt, it's rising higher and phigher as a percentage of our economy. when debt goes up, job opportunities go down. when debt goes down, job opportunities go up. that's why it's important that we restrength tur the federal government. >> what is it you say? society is measured by how it treats its weakest members. >> i agree with that. the changes and reforms ha come from many of these programs is fine, but you can't pull the rug out from under these people. if they're not healthy, they're not going to go to work.
