state. also at that hearing we heard a lot about the puc's on site voluntary water reuse program. through the program developers work with them to voluntarily install systems to capture gray water from sinks and laundries and rainwater and foundation water and to use this for non potable uses like flushing the toilet and irrigation. the legislation i am introducing today will take the program one step further by mandating the systems in certain developments specifically it will require new large developments of 250,000 square feet located within the purple pipe zone to install the water reuse systems. this is in the eastern part of the city as well as portions of western san francisco. the legislation will also require developments city wide of 40,000 square feet to under go an on site water analysis by the puc to determine the feasibility of having one of these systems and not a mandate but provide information. the legislation will require them to report back within one year on the feasibility of retrofitting existing buildings in san francisco for water reuse system so we can ha
