the problem is that cal, cal state universities across the state have been declining in enrollment.nd here at san francisco state university in the last ten years, enrollment is down by like 9000 students. and so that's the reason why they are trying to figure out some way to find another partner. the problem is that san francisco state university has already decided that they are no longer going to be able to maintain this. right now, they do not have a window as to when it's going to close down. so there is some opportunity for another institution to step in. and of course, we're going to talk a little bit more about that coming up on our full report on nbc bay area news at six. janelle, budget constraints always a big reason why programs shut down. okay. sergio quintana, thank you so much. governor newsom is announcing a series of new measures aimed at protecting communities from wildfires. that includes new regulations called zone zero. it will require property owners to remove plants and vegetation within five feet of their homes or buildings. it would apply to properties in hi

weekend, csu faculty members from around the state are holding a conference at san francisco state university to defend higher education. organizers say they are strategizing ways to push back against csu cuts to faculty, staff and course offerings at sonoma state and dominguez hills. they say they're also worried about potential layoffs at sf state and other northern california campuses, as well as a proposal to raise tuition by more than 30% over the next few years. >> they've already let go over, like many like over 100, maybe 2 or 300 lecturer faculty, so almost none left. and now we might get layoffs as well. they might discontinue programs when they discontinue a program. that means they get rid of all the faculty, whether you have tenure or not. >> the california faculty association conference is also planning a session for a march and rally in sacramento on april 17th. multiple school districts across the bay area will be moving forward with layoffs or school closures in the coming days. this, as they face multimillion dollar budget deficits. san francisco, fremont and hayward all pro

san francisco state university will play a major role thanks to a modified graduation requirement thatill now include climate justice. here to give us more insight is our meteorologist, vianey arana. this is a mandatory class. it is. and you know, the school says this is the first time a major public university within the california state university system will require students to take a course that focuses solely on climate justice, not just climate change, as part of its graduation requiment across all majors. so you don't have to be studying science specifically to be taking courses in this. now, students were already learning about climate change through coursework titled environmental sustainability. yes, but that will now include climate action sca, making it a requirement in the university's curriculum. what will that mean for students? well, the university says this will not change any student's current path towards graduation, but will instead improve the coursework that already exists. sfsu has committed over the years to incorporating climate education through climate hq, wh

the ongoing financial crisis at san jose state university and what it means for those on campus. but let's begin with that deadly police shooting in concord. it all started with a fight between a father and son. police say the son was stabbing the father when they showed up, and that's when they opened fire. let's bring in our jodi hernandez. she is live at the scene. and, jodi, what are you learning out there? well, police aren't saying much. in fact, they'reot talking on camera at all. but this is the house where it all happened. police were out here all day. in fact, they just took down the crime scene tape and left the scene. now, what we do know is that at about 140 this morning, a caller dialed 911, saying a man had been stabbed by his adult son. according to the dispatch call, the two men were struggling over a knife in the living room while the caller hid in the garage. concord police say when they arrived, the attacker attacker was actively stabbing his family member. that's when police shot and killed the man. the father was taken to the hospital and police say he is ex
