. >> anchor: we're following a developing story at the statehouse. governor baker signing a landmark bill into law requiring men and women to receive equal pay for equal work. amaka ubaka live for us from the statehouse. >> reporter: advocates of this law say massachusetts now has the strongest legislation in the country when it comes to equal pay so that women finally here is video signing that equal pay bill that law. this has been in the works for a long time and was a bipartisan effort among democrats and republicans in the house and senate. both parties voted unanimously in favor of it. this law strengthens already existing legislation getting massachusetts closer to equal pay for equal work. here is what the law accomplishes. it defines capable work for men establishes legal protection for companies to conduct internal audits to review their penization practices and to fix them. here is sound from the female state treasurer deborah goldber. >>> the signing of the equal pay bill is something that is a long time coming but is a critical it makes

fox25 michael henrich joins us live outside the statehouse this morning with look at new law that is among other things, michael designed to make the >> michael: truly lost count how many hours i came to the statehouse to cover to keep everybody informed about this, but finally the regular -- regulatory bill mandate background checks, not only by the company but in covered nation from the state and create a state subgroup that had administer these background checks and have them available any of the apps at that point as soon as it is done. background check process, something that a bunch of people had pushed for and not included in the final compromise. what was included is 20-cent per ride fee. most goes to infrastructure improvements on the roadways but part of it also does go to a fund that will helped out the taxi industry that ride sharing potentially discussed. restrictions on where the uber and lift drivers can pick people up. had potentially -- talked about potentially banning them from picking people up from the convention center and from the airport but that was not includ
