we're building phase one project, which is the station. we're building a station to accommodate 11 different transit systems and accommodate future high-speed rail. we're building a station that under local and state law were mandated to accommodate all different 11 different transit moats and to build this wonderful community. just to give a little bit of background, a number of years ago the state department of transportation transfer the transbay joint powers authority. 12 developable eight goalacres. without the ability to sell this land, we would not be able to complete the project. there are a number of social considerations involved today in supporting the transit district plan. one is the city of san francisco need to sell the seven portions that were transferred to us at no cost by the state of california to complete the bill of the transit center station itself, which is now under construction. one of the very first properties weaseled recently was to allow housing for formerly displaced housing. senator byrd, when he was preside

the station was really falling down. the post office had been moved to the colored waiting room, in fact, about a dozen years ago when i started working at montpellier, the postmaster had this space as his office, this wire cage was still in place. and where this box of -- of mail slots was, was his little window to speak to the people who came in to the, into the post office. what we decided to do was, the -- montpellier post office was very important to the local community. we didn't want to lose that. what we decided to do was move the post office to the far room of the station which is beyond this wall, which is what was called the freight room. and that's where all of the great from the trains was stored until it was placed on the trains themselves. so it was a big empty room. we moved the postmaster and post office over there. and we decided to open this up as an exhibit space. the decision to -- whether or not to put -- the white and colored signs over the doors of the train station was, was a very contentious one

i think you have seen most local stations m local stations go from producing 20 hours a week of programming to 40 hours a week of programming exclusively in the local news genre. we added multi cast channels on our signals now which are trying to get clearance on satellite and cable. so i would disagree with mr. ergan that money is not being used in a constructive way to advance the business interests of the local television. >> mr. barrett, how would you respond to concerns some parties have raised about the impact of broadcast stations coordination and consolidation on retransmission consent negotiations? >> well, i think speaking for our company, we negotiate only on behalf of the owned stations of the hearst corporation. other companies have pooled some of their retransmission consent negotiations, have created bundles, but i believe in most cases and all cases people have been smart enough to acknowledge that they have to break up a bundle, mr. ergan wants to buy a station where we have duoopoly separately and sell sell kcra separately. >> i think the problem is that in retransmission

, that was a good news/bad news idea for local tv stations. on the one hand, yay, they'll be selling their whole inventory of ad stays, but on the other hand, all of that inventory could be at the cheapest possible rate, even in the primest of prime-time. the reason there's regulation on the ad rates for political ads is because we have a public interest in how election airing is done and who has the ability to do it. one of the rights we have with respect to political ads is we have a right to know who's paying for them. who's paying for those political ads you'll be seeing this year and how much they are paying to run them. we have the right to know, by law. that's public information. but let's say you want to exercise that right. in order to find out who's behind the attack ads that you see running in every commercial break during your local newscast or during "two and a half men," or whatever, the only way you can exercise your right to know who paid for that ad and how much they paid for it, which is your right to know, the only way you c

station. that sigh of relief you hear is coming from east bay and san francisco commuters who have their ride home back. now, i want to take you back to early in the morning when the building behind me under construction, the red star senior apartment building, caught on fire. the flames reached and actually damaged the track here at the west oakland b.a.r.t. station and that led to a very long, very patient-testing morning commute. the fire started sometime around 2:00 this morning, burning extremely hot for two hours and damaging insulators on the track of the west oakland b.a.r.t. station. that shut down the trains heading into san francisco. leading to a massive bottleneck during the morning commute that quickly turned tense. >> yes, because they should have had contingency plans on file. you know, it's like any manager knows that murphy is lurking everywhere. >> that what? >> murphy. you've heard of murphy's law, anything that can go wrong will go wrong. >> told me to go to an ac transit
