stefanie dekker is there. what is the latest? >> well, there's a change in language and sentiment coming out of kobane. we spoke to our sources of the y.p.g. the sources say that they making head way. there were four in the early hours, and they managed to push i.s.i.s. further back. they are moving in an attack way rather than defensive. that's what we heard from a fighters, who came out, mildly injured. he had a positive message, saying he would go back wep he feels better. they believe they will push them back. some feel the air strikes have come too late. over 200,000 people have had to flee just behind us, many dealing with a difficult situation, dependent ept on handouts. people tell you there's many behind us watching what is going on, they are frustrated, they want to help humanitarianly or fight. it's a message we hearts from the u.n. special envoy to syria, telling them to open their boarders, turkey refusing to do that, foreign ministers saying armed civilians would be a crime. the language is not helping. to wrap it u

stefanie dekker has the latest from southern turkey. >> the future of kobane is uncertain. it's been another day of coalition air strikes. we heard another boom in the background to show you that this is an ongoing battle. we were a little closer to the town, and heard intensive street battles. we are told from kurdish fighters inside the town that i.s.i.l. made advances on thursday, in the east and south. talking about advances, we are talking street-by-street. this is fought inside the city. of course, the kurdish fighters have a small advantage in the sense that they are used to guerilla warfare, used to the up to , know it well and are faced with weaponry. at the diplomatic front we have action from turkey, and the u.s. putting pressure on the former general john alan. a special representative for the coalition. he wants more from turkey. a clear message that they want turkey to do more. >> stefanie dekker reporting from the region in south turkey. the white house is keeping an eye on the deteriorating situation much the administration is largely in monitoring mode. mik

let's go to stefanie dekker from tripoli. stef, what's happening there? >> reporter: you can probably hear it. it's a tense stand-off between the army and fighters. the army is positioned a little further down this road and around one kilometer to the right of me. >> that's the sunni neighborhood where these groups are now focusing on. we have this. we have heard quite intense battles over the last couple of hours. we do know their leader is meeting in tripoli to try to find an end, a solution but there has been this on and off fighting since thursday dawn and the army in an apartment north of here arresting a man they accused of being a recruiter for isil. this is a tension situation here. the people in lebanon on are used to war but this is a result of the syrian spillover. there has been tensions here before. two different neighborhoods, the neighborhood where those fighters are now and another neighborhood where people are supporters of assad. >> that's fight we have seen happen here since the course of the war but it's been relatively quiet. the arre

stefanie dekker is in tripoli not far from where the battles are being fought. >> there remains an incrediblyension stand-off between the army and fighters holed up in an area that is a sunni neighborhood. the road where we are, you can hear it there. this has been ongoing throughout the day. sometimes more intention. thinks being used like artillery, rpgs, small arms fire. it certainly does sound incredibly intention from what we have been hearing throughout the day. now, when you talk to people here, many people who have been here waiting have relatives inside. they are calling for a ceasefire. they say give us time to get our women and children out of there. the civilians who are not fighting. so we can at least bring them to safety. at the moment, that hasn't happened. politicians and religious liters are meeting here in tripoli trying to find a solution. the message we heard from them was that they weren't happy with the army besieging, as they called it, this neighborhood because of the civilian presence, they say that they stand behind the army trying to root out what they call terrori
