we talked with yankees coach steinbrenner. a.inbrenner: we have had rough few years that we've been talking about sanchez's and those that are now here. we're going to get bird going as well. we are patient. it we do not treat these kids away when everyone was asking for them. they were great. the judges have arrived and the judge delivered in a big way. >> he had a couple of 500 foot moon shots. he was the most searched after player. of race ball.face baseball. nobody predicted he would have this much success, this much impact. he's driving sales, tickets, television ratings. everything going gangbusters because of aaron judge. this point,until the yankees were having trouble selling tickets. theyg new hope, that continue to make a run. >> it sort of proved that they did the right thing. yankees, ifk of the we needed a player, we would go give up the prospect and get the established all-star. scarlet: whatever it takes. >> now it is about keeping those prospect and it is coming to fruition. hell said, everybody called and wanted

to stay with your baseball analogy, steinbrenner actually led the yankees, but the coaches on the field managed the team and they got it done. you know, you had on the vicar of politics and the white house, pat buchanan and he laid it out perfectly. this is about some order, some discipline, and a clear understanding that we're -- that they're there to, in fact, carry out the agenda that the president won on. there's not going to be any contest between john and the president. john is very comfortable as the general. he understands that his job is to keep the herd moving west and on message. neil: when you were an advisor, of course, donald trump thinks a great deal of you, who wouldn't, by the way. if you had to be frank with him and tell him, sir, i don't think this is a good idea. were you ever able to do that and secondly, did he hear you out? >> one of the things, the answer to that is that we worked within a system. the vice-president was leading the transition team. neil: right. >> i worked very comfortably with the vice-president and i think my advice got a proper hearing. look,

he actually is a graduate of the george steinbrenner school of governance, who was a friend of his, and ran the yankees with this type of chaos in good times and bad. >> but they won championships. >> but then they did not. here's the thing, chris. a lot of tough guys went in there and thought i'll be the one, i beal the one to turn him around, i'll be the one to say no to him, and guess what? they got carried out just like everybody else did. >> it's interesting you mention the boy scouts and sort of their code of honor. the atlantic wrote, "you cannot work directly for trump while adhering to a code of honesty, integrity, and lawfulness." >> the idea that jep kelly is going to ride in on a white horse and establish discipline in the white house i think is beyond what's reasonable. and i think the reason why i think that's the case is the character question of the person who occupies the white house right now. everything we've seen, all the trouble that the white house has experienced in some ways hasn't been because of the disorder of the staff. leaks not withstanding, priebus' leader

i've been telling my colleagues here, president trump reminds me a bit of george steinbrenner. if you're a baseball fan from the 70s. you remember all the times that he fired billy martin and brought him back, this is the kind of leadership. he's welling to make change for change's sake and sometimes has an impact. >> i hope he doesn't try to sign jesse barfield. >> well-done. >> i have to ask you one more question. i know you said that was the last thing. don't give me the silent treatment. i can't read much from the anthony scaramucci story because there is a lot of expletives. it's beyond salty. the other person that he called out is steve bannon. he talked about him in a different way looking to forward his own brand instead of the president's. i'm wondering if bannon is next. what do you hear? >> i got to tell you, i was really hoping that i might when able to reach out -- maybe off the cuff make a little contact with the chief strategist. haven't been able to do it. he doesn't suffer foolishness lightly. he has the president's ear. how that will play out remains to be see
