joining me now, house majority leader congressman steny hoyer, democrat of maryland. congressman hoyer, let me go right to it. speaker pelosi select committee on the insurrection, my language. it was revealed to the public this week with one republican, congresswoman liz cheney in that 13-member group. republican minority leader kevin mccarthy has told his caucus not to accept an appointment and risk their committee assignments. watching all of this happened is house majority leader. i wonder how you describe the path that brought congress to this point, because despite my political differences with political republican lawmakers in the past, i still can't imagine most of those lawmakers being so unbothered by an assault on the capitol and then being disproportionately more forceful in their response to its investigation. >> well, i think it's very sad, reverend, as you point out that the response that the republicans have had to the insurrection that occurred, the violent insurrection, which led to the deaths of both civilians and police personnel in the attacks on p

joining me live to discuss is the house majority leader democrat steny hoyer of maryland. mr.t me ask you a question. so the federal government is now going to be mandated to have vaccines or weekly covid tests. should congress do the same for all members of congress and staff? >> well, i think we certainly have urged all members of congress and all staff to be vaccinated. i think we're well over 70%, so that we have reached a percentage that' but should we everybody to have one? yes. should we require everyone to have one or as the president has done alternatively be tested or certainly wear a mask and assert that they are not feeling as if they may have covid, i think the answer to that is yes. we need to get people vaccinated in this country, and we need to urge everybody to be vaccinated, and very frankly, every leader, republican or democrat, this has nothing to do with politics, everything to do with health and life in our country, and it just seems to me inconceivable that when you see 98 plus percent of the people who are getting really sick or getting the delta varian

announcer: house minority whip steve scalise and majority leader steny hoyer debated speaker pelosi's rejection of two republican representative's from serving on the select committee. ask about something that is going to be coming up next week, that is this january 6 commission that the speaker created is expected to meet next week. yesterday we saw an alarming departure from congressional tradition, and that is speaker pelosi unilaterally made a decision to remove minority members from that committee. you go through the history of congress. prior to this year, never has the speaker denied the minority the ability to choose who they are going to put on committees. and not only did it happen yesterday with multiple members, a ranking member of a standing committee was removed, an officer in the united states navy was removed from that committee without explanation. that first of all undermines all credibility that this committee will have. it's clear that now it's an attempt by the speaker to just completely politicize that committee. why the majority chose to abuse power in that way

that contradicts what we are hearing from the majority leader steny hoyer who sayson he wantso move all the bills. >> house majority steuer goal was to move all bills to the house floor before the end of july but there's been no official change in that position but he did note to one of my colleagues before the house took their fourth of july break it could be both challenging to get all 12 12 appropriation billn the house floor. we don't expect much, if any, republican support for this bill from the house floor. house democratic leaders willing to do make sure any spending bill or packages many bills to the house floor that they challenge of them very well and very constantly ahead of time and that's going to be particularly challenging on the whole security bill. during the trump administration with the border while funding bill and so they ran into a lot of conflicts there not just amongst democrats but some moderate republicans as well in texas republicans with eminent domain issues during the trump administration and so while biden is the president now and he's taken steps to roll
