stephanie/2shot: and i'm stephanie angleson. stephanie/2shot the controversial silhouette of a soldier kneeling at the front of a cross has been removed from a knoxville park. the memorial was moved from the freedom rock site in knoxville's youngs park. the fight over the silhouette began when americans united for a separation of church and state received a complaint about the memorial and requested it be removed. earlier this month, knoxvilles city council voted to move the memorial to private property. it will be placed across the street on private property once a concrete pad can be poured for it. jack/2shot meanwhile a veteran in grimes created a very similar memorial with his own money and land. and he's hosting a special ceremony tonight in its honor. local 5's claire powell has more in tonight's big story.

stephanie/2shot and i'm stephanie angleson. people in des moines are outnumbered by pets... nearly 200 thousand people live in the city limits. animal control believes there are about a half a million pets. for the most part... only a few of them cause serious problems like bites or vicious attacks that break the skin, permamently scar or even kill humans. jack: but how do you know if you're living near someone who's been in trouble for not controlling their dogs in the past... and if it can happen again? local five's nikki davidson joins us now to show you the truth about dangerous dogs in des moines. nikki: it's not easy. we asked for a database. stats. addresses. anything to be able to help spread the word about problem pets. and in just a few hours of riding with animal control officers we saw first hand.. the back log and staffing issues the city has when it comes to controlling dangerous animals. . "your watching local 5 jajack miller, stephanie angleson, we are iowa's most accurate forecast with chief meteorologist brad edwards and local 5 sports with sports director jon schaeffer. this is local 5 news at 10. we are iowa." stephanie: an update on the merle hay mall animals that were moved out nearly one year ago. last december, the c-e-o of pella wildlife was evicted from his exhibit at the mall. several state agencies helped to move 21 species out of their exhibits. most of the animals were relocated to a colorado wildlife sanctuary. the blank park zoo and a-r-l also helped care for some of the smaller animals. stephanie: 18 large animals including several foxes, grey wolves, and three black bears spent the past 11 months at the colorado wildlife animal sanctuary. the facility just released their winter newsletter and featured some of the animals. they say all of them had to go through rehabilitation to improve their physical, psychological, and social health. but they're now enjoying their newfound freedom with several acres to roam around. jack: power shopping for a purpose... a
