ann thornton. >> the thank you so much to jordan brewington, caleb mcdaniel and stephanie mccurry for their informative and engaging discussion on repaired of justice. and it's important role in our nations evolution. even in the slavery issue, lincoln took an economic tack. in the state of illinois, i know we have some illinois natives in the audience, you couldn't if you wanted a political future in illinois, advocate for social equality among the races. the famous lincoln douglass debates in 1950, douglas tried to debate lincoln, a much less kind expression and, that lincoln did not take the bait. he did not argue for the quality of the races or even equal voting franchise. without leave anybody else, the black man is the equal of judge douglas and myself, and any living man. he said it again when he ran for president two years later in new haven. talking about the right of people to rise. and he added pointedly, and i believe the black man is entitled to. it his program for black americans was really a smaller version of his program for all of our audience, he believed in opportunity. great pleasur
