"today in the bay" stephanie chuang is live in santa cruz. stephanie, the scene behind you is is it still active it this morning. >> reporter: very active. in fact, we have just seen investigators and police and folks from the coroner's office huddled around a blue recycling dumpster. it appears they have just pulled the body of madyson middleton from that dumpster. we saw them load the body on to a gurney so they are getting ready to take her body away in the coroner's van, a tragic story here, it's focused in that garage at the tannery arts is center, this apartment complex that houses artists, it's double the heart breaking story for the folks here. a 15-year-old boy who lives here arrested on suspicion of the murder. we blurred his face because of his age. you could see police officers rushing over to the area of dumpster just before 8:00 last night. this is where middleton was last seen riding her scooting sunday afternoon. this her image captured on a surveillance camera on this this building. she had been playing with friends. witnesses

we begin with stephanie chuang she's live in san francisco. how is it looking so far? >> reporter: it's picking up trafficwise but everything is still running smooth limit i just spoke with police who said right now the 6:00 hour is when they start to get a little concerned here along the highway 1 park presidio which turns into 19th avenue and california. the traffic coming off the of the golden gate bridge, this is a major dee tour drivers are taking to leave the city. all of this happening so crews can remove the temporary bypass built three years ago and connect the final pieces of the new roadway. this has shut down the major access road for people between marin and san francisco off the golden gate bridge. there are police officers monitoring the major detour sbebs. they say last night went smoothing. they will be here until 7:00 in the morning. at that point is sfmta some of the meter maids will be taking over and monitoring until company 7:00 at night. this will be going throughout the weekend. the officers say this morning and tonight could get pretty bad. >>

stephanie chuang joining us live. do firefighters think this is coincidence or that they might be connected? >> reporter: that's the question. nothing official out yet but we are talking about three overnight fires happening within 20 minutes and two miles of one another. so is far definitely no link to yesterday morning's fire. with our fresh video from this morning you can see firefighters, ten fire ruse, in fact, called to put out these three small fires all along highway 24 in lafayette. they happened along the stretch of oak hill road. the fires were not big in size, but they are suspicious in nature. that's according to contra costa county fire which adds all these fires are a good remainder to everyone in the bay area to take fire danger especially seriously as the hot weather and dry conditions persist. >> the biggest thing is just to stay vil plant. it is high fire danger still, it will be for the rest of the week. fires can start very easily right now because of the weather conditions, they are just right fo

"today in the bay" stephanie chuang joining us live. these fires were just a few miles apart. >> reporter: that's right, sam. in fact, the latest three from last night just two miles apart, happening in 20 minutes all along highway 24. if you look at the overnight video that we have you can see firefighters working to put out flames and some embers all along highway 24, spanning around oak hill road. these were small fires, all less than an acre but true out ten fire ruse and four battalion chiefs. these overnight fires do seem suspicious because of how close they were if both time and place. >> this one is a little strange in that it's right on the freeway, very visible. so if minute has any information they should give contra costa fire a call and ask to speak to our fire investigators. >> reporter: now, these are just a couple miles from yesterday morning's eight acre grass fire that forced one family out of its home above highway 24 near pleasant hill road. firefighters still trying to determine the cause of that blaze. investigator

stephanie chuang is live at eden medical center? castro valley but we begin with bob redell outside of city hall. you just got new inspection about the person of interest in this case? >> sam and kris or colleague found out that the person of interest is 22 years old, that he checked himself into a hospital this morning for a gunshot wound. now police have pointed out to us that this person is secure but not yet in custody, but that they have linked him to this white pickup truck that was found abandoned earlier this morning on 98th and east in oakland with at least three bullet hots in the driver's side door. police believe this is the truck that was involved in the traffic stop that resulted in the shooting death of sergeant scott lunger. at a news conference here about 90 minutes ago, the acting police chief said sergeant lunger and his partner pulled over the driver of that car for driving erratically, possibly for doing doughnuts, according to one witness. >> as sergeant lunger got out of the car and approached the driver's sid

"today in the bay" stephanie chuang is live at the incident command post with the latest numbers. good morning, steph. >> reporter: we are at the new cal fire command post in vacaville, 20 miles south of where we were before. you can see where firefighters have to check in. we are told they moved here at 10:00 last night. you get the sense there is progre progress, that the numbers are much better than they were before. the acreage still at 6,900 but that's roughly the same as noon yesterday. weather has certainly helped. it's still a big wildfire, containment just at 15% and almost 1,400 firefighters and personnel out here. that blooped from 500 yesterday morning. since wednesday afternoon the start of the fire firefighters have struggled with the steep rugged terrain. thankfully no other structures have burned, still just that one barn destroyed and one house damaged. cal fire says it is not letting up on attack. >> we are not taking any chances with the percent contained. we still have a lot of open line to build. we are not taking any chances. >> reporter: this is heavily depe

"today in the bay" stephanie chuang joins us live near lake berryessa. has been talking to firefighters. have they been able to make any this headway? >> reporter: they were able to especially overnight. there were flames visible at 128 at pleasant road where it is closed to through traffic. now we've got live pictures from our chopper here that show there are very active flames going on it is a very fluid situation here. the wragg fire now at 6,000 acres, only 5% contained and firefighters dealing with some very steep, rugged terrain, they limited access to the hottest spots here. that's making it very difficult, as well as very try fuel here the brush and grass because of the drought conditions. a very challenging fire might is how cal fire has described it to us, so tar 200 homes threatened and several areas under mandatory evacuation but firefighters saying people are heeded those warnings and that has made our job far easier. so back to you live. they're being b. to send choppers up maybe in about an hour. the helicopters will be going up after 8:00
