stephanie elam is live in los angeles with more. tephanie. >> reporter: good morning, carol. when you talk to the sheriff's department they say this was a tragic traffic collision that involved a celebrity. the investigation continues as such. they are looking at this traffic accident. let's just breakdown for you what happened. what we know is that on the pacific coast highway, the highway that runs along the pacific ocean here in california there was a black prius stopped and white lexus behind it. they had some sort of incident. they were stopped and that's when we understand bruce jenner's suv came up from behind and hit that white lexus and spun it into oncoming traffic and hit a hummer. the 69-year-old woman in the lexus died. we know there were five minors and two adults taken to the hospital. at this point, investigators say that they are looking into what could have gone on here. this was a four-car accident so they are talking to the other three drivers that were involved. we do now have a statement coming from bruce jenner

stephanie elam joins us with what happened. >> reporter: it was just after noon on saturday, right about this time of day, when bruce jenner was driving his black suv towing an all-terrain vehicle on a trailer behind him. he was driving northbound on the pacific coast highway, just like we are. right here along the very stunning pacific ocean off to his left. authorities say for some unknown reason, a black prius was stopped in the road ahead of him. a white lexus rear-ended the prius. jenner coming along in his suv rear-ended the white lexus right about here, sending it into oncoming traffic, and where it was hit by a hummer h-2. the woman driving the white lexus, 69-year-old kim howe, dies. the five passengers in the h-2 are taken to the hospital to be evaluated, and sent home. >> it's going to take quite a bit of time to analyze all the evidence, all the vehicles have been impounded for examination to look for mechanical defects. >> reporter: while paparazzi remember on the scene, as evidence by the viral photos of the accidents, authorities say they weren't chasing jenner. the 65-yea

we're joined now by stephany elam. she's at the sheriff's station in california. so stephany the paparazzi was not the cause? initially there was some rumblings that bruce jenner was being chased by paparazzi. >> reporter: there was an understand zenl between four cars that first car that that white lexus had an incident with. the suv that jenner was driving, rear ended that lexus, which then forced the car into oncoming traffic and was hit by that hummer. that's what happened there, the woman that died in that lexus, we can tell you that she's 69 years old, but they're still not releasing her name until they notify the next of kin. at this point they are investigating this traffic accident as a fatality and nothing more than that. they're continuing to look at that they're continuing their investigation. but this was a major accident that shut down the pacific coast highway, which you may have heard about, it's one of the most beautiful drives in the country, it runs along the pacific ocean and it rides along the coast of california it's very beautiful, but it is

stephanie elam joins us now with more on the investigation. >> reporter: at this point the sheriff's department is saying this investigation remains a traffic accident with a fatality. what we know is a four-car descend, there was a car in front of that lexus. they had an accident first before what we're being told is brew jenner's suv reended that lexus that hit it into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by a hummer. we know the woman was died was 69 years old. they have still not released the name of the woman. they also said there were reports that jenner may have been smoking, and the sheriff's department saying at this point they have no indication that that's anything to look into or whether or not he was doing that. they're not releasing that information at this point. at this point, it's important to state here this is a traffic accident with a fatality. it has not moved further into something more egregious. still a very sad tornado. >> that's so much stephanie. keep us posted if there's anything new from that investigation later on. >>> what can world leaders do to stop rus
