stephanie gosk as we said is live at the clark county election building in north las vegas. stephanie, what are you hearing? >> reporter: you know, willie, the top election official spoke to us yesterday and he says they are working as fast as they can to get through those ballots where they've got their maximum staff and machines and space. and, you know, i asked him, i said, listen, if you had more space and you had more people and you had more machines, would it go a little faster, and he said maybe, but i don't. and he tells us they're going as fast as they can. last night you had a vote drop, about 31,000 statewide. once again, those votes broke heavily, almost two-thirds of the vote, for cortez masto. and the lead that laxalt had going into the evening, agent 15,000 votes, that shrunk down to 9,000. if you take what's remaining, and we think there are more than 50,000 here in clark county, statewide that could be less than 100,000, they continue to break that way for cortez masto, she could take the lead. the question is by how much? and you could have a lead here shri

first of what is going to be multiple reports from two states throughout the hour, beginning with stephanie gosk in pennsylvania, trymaine lee in georgia. stephanie, let's start with you in pennsylvania. what do you see? >> andrea, we are in the middle of the lunchtime rush here, in upper providence township. we'll be here all day. this is in montgomery county. as you may remember from the presidential election, it's a really important county for joe biden. there was an enthusiasm for him that helped push him over the edge two years ago. the question is, is that enthusiasm still here? a lot of people saying it may not be. these people voting in person. but there's a critical issue right now, with the mail-in votes here in the state of pennsylvania. and let me just set that up a little bit for you. the mail-in vote, when you're done voting, you have to sign and date the back of that ballot before you send it in. and a lot of people leave the date off. some people were told even put their birthday on there. right now, according to the supreme court here in this state, those ballots have to be put

. >>> nevada, that's where we find stephanie gosk and john raulston. stephanie, so much of the focus is in northwest vegas. what do you expect to hear from officials today? >> reporter: they have a routine now. they like do a press conference at 2:30 eastern time. they do the drop in the evening. we hope to get an idea of how many votes they are going to drop tonight in this press conference. there's been a lot of scrutiny on the pacing of this count. there are a couple of things to keep in mind when you talk about that scrutiny. the first is something that joe gloria brought up yesterday, which is that all of this mail-in ballot processing is something relatively new. it happened because of the pandemic. then they introduced, in 2021, a law that every registered voter in this state received a mail-in ballot. that means the vast majority of votes cast in this state are mail-in ballots. they can only process them here, depending on the staff, the machines they have and the space that they have. i asked gloria yesterday in his press conference if he had m

stephanie gosk is in nevada.opa county where more than 290,000 people left dropoff ballots this year 100,000 more than 2020. officials still counting the votes. what updates do we expect there today? >> reporter: hey, jose. well, officials here in maricopa county have acknowledged they had to move the goalpost so to speak. originally, they were hoping to have 90 to 95% of the votes in arizona's largest county counted, tabulated by the end of today. they say that given the situation looks like it will take longer than that, given as you mentioned 100,000 more people dropped off those mail in ballots in person on election day. those ballots take longer to process because they have to go through what's called signature verification. now, we're expecting the first results from that 290,000 beginning later tonight and that will give us a sense of how this is going to ultimately play out in 2018, those ballots, those mail in ballots that were dropped off in person trended towards the democrats but trended towards repub

and with me now is nbc news correspondent vaughn hillyard in phoenix, stephanie gosk is in north las vegas for us, and i will start with you, steph, it feels like today, the intrigue is all about nevada. election officials are saying the votes, based on where they're coming from, and the big picture question is, would it be enough for the incumbent democratic senator catherine cortez masto to catch up with adax laxalt. what is the thinking? what is the sense of what we know? >> if you look at the last two days, what we've seen is the vote, two-thirds for cortez masto, if that trend continues, then she has the ability to erase that lead, and maybe even go further than that, but that's what the numbers show, we just heard from joe gloria, here, the top elections official, in clark county, and he was giving us an idea of how long it would take to get through the mail-in ballots, yesterday he said about 50,000 and today, he said there will be another chunk that will be recorded tonight, 15,900, and then you have the remaining, a little over 30,000. so he said they could be wrapped up, wi

want to start, though, by heading out to pennsylvania where nbc's stephanie gosk is in montgomery county. stephanie, what have you seen? what is the mood there? >> reporter: hey there, chris. well, you know, the lunch hour rush seems to be over but we did have lines out here just about half an hour ago. and there were lines at 7:00 a.m. when these polls opened up. and let's talk a little bit about enthusiasm because enthusiasm is that gauge for turnout and turnout is to important, especially here in montgomery county. we talked to the chair of the board of elections here in montgomery county and asked him specifically about mail-in ballots. and he said that the mail-in ballots, they're seeing more mail-in ballots than they did in 2018. they're not quite at the levels that they were in the presidential election two years ago but they are seeing more than that 2018 election. we've been chatting with people all day here today. and i'll tell you some things we've been hearing. well, importantly, i'll tell you what i've not been hearing, and that's not anyone talking about abortion right now.

let's go now to nbc stephanie gosk, standing by in north las vegas force. stephanie, welcome again. what are you seeing there as we await an update soon from the elections officials? >> yeah, we are going to get another press conference, which is what they've been doing basically every afternoon. these press conferences have not been especially illuminating, alex. but they do give us some sense of the numbers and what we're looking to hear today from joe gloria is whether or not they really are going to finish here in clark county, the largest county in the state, with more than 70% of the population. whether they are going to finish the majority of those mail-in ballots today. now, he told me in the press conference yesterday that as soon as they wrapped up, they are going to get those results in. so, while we've been getting these vote dumps every evening from clark county, he did suggest that if they finish earlier, we can get those results earlier. and right now, this race is as close as it possibly could be with the difference between adam laxalt, who has a slight lead, less th

stephanie gosk, vaughn hillyard, thank you very much. i will take you both up on that offer of vegas. especially because no matter what, i win, because i'm not in this competition. >>> joining me now is the "washington post" political investigative reporter josh dotsy. let's talk about donald trump. he had a night last night on his social media. and i'm not one to want to talk about his individual, what do they call them tweets, whatever he has, but these were something else, and that, i know, is saying a lot. what's going on? >> well, there's certainly a feeling here that he is very perturbed by how his involvement in these races has been categorized and the backlash he has gotten from the republican party, lots of leaders, lots of people who are usually loyal to him are not being loyal to him right now. and there's really, there is a sense that he is on the ropes. and there's a lot of his advisers who are saying he's in a definitive crouch, he is quite angry at how some of the candidates performed, we've seen him continue with some of

. >> all right, let's bring in nbc's stephanie gosk standing by with some news in las vegas. , you know, everyone has been asking the same question, what are we gonna hear, what are we gonna hear, what are we gonna hear? unfortunately, we are not getting any real specific answers here, right? we've been giving this two and a half hour window here in clark county for that 22,000 vote drop to happen. washoe county says it will be, maybe, half an hour after that, or an hour after that. but they are not entirely certain. what's interesting, and what we should keep an eye on, obviously, listening to steve kornacki earlier, there is a possibility that these ballots go, these mail-in ballots and break the way they've been breaking for cortez masto all week, but she could end up with a substantial lead by the end of today. but we need to watch that lead. we need to see how big it is, and if it is not as big as has been trending, then you could find this state in a situation where you really have to move on to the next votes next week, and the race remains on called. and of those votes

stephanie gosk in pennsylvania for us, thank you so much for starting us off. i always love to know what you're watching. this is such a nail biter for anyone who's worked on campaigns and politics. we all know the stakes. we've been talking about the stakes for the last really five years, but especially the last two. what are going to be sort of your bellwethers for what you're watching early in the night. >> clearly all these mid western states, i'm watching gretchen whitmer's race closely. she's been such a strong candidate, and i think things really did turn in michigan after the dobbs decision. of course pennsylvania that race is razor thin and the stakes are high. i think the most interesting thing and you spoke to it there is that folks now know, and particularly women voters understand that the difference between having their own rights to make decisions about their pregnancy can be completely determined by their governor. these governor's races, and that's one of the reasons josh shapiro is running so strongly ahead in the state of pennsylvania, this i

let's bring in our nbc news reporters closely following the races on the ground, and stephanie gosk isn pennsylvania, and vaughn hilliard is in paradise valley, arizona. what are the closing messages in the governor's race in arizona look like? >> reporter: kari lake is the leading character for election denialism in the country, josÉ, and that's why we're watching this so closely, and she's perhaps donald trump's favorite candidate in 2022, and just down the road last night she perpetuated the conspiracy theories that there have been stolen elections and she suggested she's worried about her own election for governor today, hedging her bets she could lose. when you are looking at polling it's a neck and neck race between her and democrat, katie hobbs. why we are looking at arizona extends beyond kari lake. here in the state of arizona, in order to certify the presidential election in 2024 it will require the signatures of not only the governor but the secretary of state and attorney general, and both republican nominees are election deniers, and masters, he was campaigning with these

joining me is stephanie gosk and monica alba.et together, and we want to be in a big room with lots of people and sharing plates and all that, and is that likely? should we be doing that? >> it is likely, and when you talk about covid, things plateaued around the country, and the rsv and the respiratory cases, and it's the flu, and we spoke to a hospital in seattle, a children's hospital, they said at this month they were at 200% capacity the entire month and at times it spiked to 300%. rsv is frightening, especially for really small children. we spoke to a family in ohio, and their newborn last month got sick and had fever and was starting to have a lot of trouble breathing, and brought him to the cleveland clinic and they still had to wait 11 hours in the emergency room and that's because the hospitals are maxed out, and they are dealing with shortages. all of that is coming together to make things very difficult for them. in terms of your family, the tips are if you are not feeling great, don't go to thanksgiving dinner. other

stephanie gosk is in las vegas and vaughn hillyard is in phoenix. vaughn, what's happening? >> reporter: we'll be getting more results released. last night there were 75,000 votes. tonight could give us an indication where the senate race is going, whether blake masters has a shot to win this and overcome the deficit he's facing. in the governor's race there's a very tight margin. we'll get about 40,000 ballots today that are going to trend in democrats' favor. those are the last mail ballots received. then there's the next batch of ballots that will give us a greater indication of whether blake masters or kari lake has a shot. those are hand delivered ballots by voters. republicans anticipate these going heavily in their favor. the question is by how much. that's the major question here. in the meanwhile what you're hearing kari lake talking about intentional slow walking which there's no evidence of. you have mark finch the secretary of state candidate suggesting there are anomalies of the election results. no evidence of that. you have donald trump contending there's chea

stephanie gosk is there. our nbc news correspondent is out there in vegas this afternoon, and let's talk about the update in just about 30 minutes from now from officials in clark county, where you are. what should we expect? >> reporter: well, you know, they're getting into a little bit of a rhythm here in nevada, it is 2:30 eastern press conference with telling you how many votes they will drop and later on in the evening they will drop the votes. that's what they did yesterday. a little over 14,000 votes hoo ner clark county. another 20,000 or so in martial county, as you mentioned, they broke for cortez masto heavily. the real question today is the makeup of these votes that they're going to drop tonight. and i say that because they're now looking through some 57,000 drop box votes and these are the mail-in boxes that people didn't actually put in the mail, instead they went to their polling locations, and put them in the drop box, and who might do that, it is a little unknown and really cortez masto need

let's bring in nbc's vaughn hillyard in phoenix, and nbc's stephanie gosk from inside the room at therk county election building where we just got the update a few minutes ago. but ron, there is a little bit of news that's coming out of arizona about an update we will get in a couple of hours. what's happening? >> we're going to be hearing from mare coca county officials we're told two and a half hours from now, right where we're standing from here, and hopefully getting an update on exactly how many ballots are going to be dropped and announced here later today. that will give us an indication of where this race, hopefully will give us an indication of where this race is headed but we also need to deal with the reality that clarity may not come until friday or even saturday or sunday. and the ballot counting process is going to continue. when you look at the senate race here right now, mark kelly holds a substantial lead of about 95,000 votes over blake masters right now, but we think it is important for people to understand that a majority of the ballots are outstanding here at this

nbc's stephanie gosk joins us with the details good morning. >> reporter: good morning. know, the country is on the move for the holiday and so are a host of viruses. the flu, rsv and covid thanksgiving plans hang in the balance as people grapple with getting sick and are being given advice no one wants to hear. may be better to stay home hospitals across the country are being pushed to the limit. emergency rooms are filling up with cases of covid-19, the flu and rsv. the respiratory virus that can make children under a year old extremely sick >> there have been days we have had 30 to 40 children waiting in our emergency departments waiting for an in-patient bed. and that's unprecedented. >> reporter: in new england cases of rsv are down, but flu is up. some hospitals in boston say their pediatric icus are maxed out. the backup begins in the emergency room. >> we have large numbers of patients in the emergency department awaiting a bed, many for 12, even sometimes more than 24 plus hours. >> reporter: in ohio they waited 11 hours while suffering from a severe case of rsv

nbc's stephanie gosk leads us off from las vegas. steph, good morning. >> reporter: hey, will, good morning. at the end of election day adam laxalt was in the lead but nevada started counting those mail-in ballots and that lead erode. this morning nevada keeping the senate in democrat's hands. this morning a sigh of relief for democrats. against the odds retaining control of the senate for two more years. four days after the election nevada finally clearing most of its mail-in ballots, and when the dust settled catherine cortez masto edged out her republican opponent adam laxalt. senate majority leader chuck schumer sounding triumphant. >> this election is a victory. the american people rejected the anti-democratic extremist maga republicans. >> reporter: late friday arizona democrat mark kelly won his senate race, a rebuke he says of those who deny the results of the last election. >> we've seen the consequences that come when leaders refuse to accept the truth and focus more on conspiracies. >> reporter: with at least 50 seats and
