stephanie grisham taking the job.cnn, the acting commissioner of customs and border protection is stepping down. john sanders is his name and he has resigned. evan paris joins us live with the details. why is he leaving? >> that's not exactly career at this moment. but this adds to the turmoil that we've seen in recent months at the department of homeland security. kevin mac lean is now the acting chief over there. now once he moved over to lead the homeland security department, john sanders stepped up to lead the agency. and now he says that he is leaving. now, we don't know exactly what played a role in this, but priscilla alvarez and geneva sands are learning that this coming soon. as you pointed out, there's been these conditions of children being held at stations at the border by the cbp that has garnered a lot of negative controversy for the homeland security department. so we don't know whether that played a role in john sanders' decision to step down. we expect that we're going to hear a lot more of this. obvi

sarah sanders last day is friday and she said this about stephanie grisham. she said "i'm sad to leave the white house but so happy to leave our team in such great hands. stephanie will do a phenomenal job. proud to have another mom and a great friend in this role." there's another major move that has just broken in terms of personnel in the trump administration. the country's top border patrol official is going to resign, acting commissioner of u.s. customs and border protection. he is stepping down next month. he has only been on the job for about two months. sanders was named to the role after president trump removed then dhs secretary kirstjen nielsen from the department and replaced her with then commissioner kevin mcaleenan. the exact reason for this resignation are still very much unclear about what we do know is that the department of homeland security is dealing with a major crisis of the border, huge influx of migrants. there also dealing with a lot of controversy and accusations regarding the handling of migrant children in their custody. the fact t
