i'm stephanie lin. our top story this afternoon. crews still mopping up hot spots after a massive fire sparked near the aquatic park in berkeley near 7th street in heinz avenue. kron four's charles clifford brings us the latest. >> well, the good news here this morning is that as far as we know, nobody has been injured by this fire. unfortunately, the building is a complete loss. at least one man who was living in his van has now lost his home. just before 3 wednesday morning. the berkeley fire department responded to a fire alarm in this building along heinze avenue near 7th street. upon arrival. they found the fire spreading quickly elevated the response to 3 alarms which included calling in help. >> from the oakland fire department unable to safely enter the building. they switch to a defensive posture, work to keep the flames from spreading >> we're not able to this building but were able save the building. this attached to the back side like dogs something that i try to get my dog to be quiet so we can go back to sleep. ryan 6

i'm stephanie lin. we begin with breaking news out of san francisco road closures and routes in san francisco because of police activity. the city's department of emergency management advising the public, avoid the 14 and roosevelt way areas near the buena vista neighborhood. witness telling kron 4 this is it was sparked by an eviction dispute over a home around 11:00am and sfpd officer telling kron 4 they are assist. a san francisco sheriff with an investigation. the sheriff's office is tasked with enforcing court, ordered home evictions. but we don't know yet if that was what led to this developing situation. the 37 muni bus has been rerouted, but is still running. no injuries reported at this point. we are following this story and will share any updates as soon as we get them into our newsroom. we're also following developing news in the south bay where officers located a suspicious item that prompted a response from the bomb squad. that item has since been rendered safe this is in the area of river

i'm stephanie lin crews still mopping up hot spots after a massive fire sparked near the aquatic parkr 7th street and hines avenue kron four's. charles clifford is live there for us with the latest. charles. >> well, good fire crews are still here on scene working on putting out any hot spots. the good news is that it appears that nobody was injured by this fire. unfortunately, one man who's been living in his van as lost his home. all right. this fire started about 2.40, this morning. and crews responding quickly escalated this to 3 they brought in help from oakland. they couldn't get inside the building so they resorted to a defensive posture, try to keep the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. there was one man living in a van who have heard the fires. dogs will come up and he had make a run for it. unfortunately, his van was also destroyed. now, buy sun up. they were able to get this fire under control. the been here throughout the morning, kind of working on putting out those hot spots. a pg e is also here on scene about 50 customers lost power because the fire damaged a nea

i'm stephanie lin. 8.59 for you this saturday morning. hanie. good morning, everybody out still another hot one for today. we have those heat advisory statement still in effect, at least for the east bay and portions of the north and the south bay. but on balance, things are starting to change and we're going to see more clouds in our future that we saw from previous. now we have that low level moisture still which to deal with. that's the fog you can see here on the radar and the satellite composite. we you see the grays. that's the low level moisture where the bright lights are. that moisture is little bit higher up and that's what the concern is. when you get up there around 30,000 feet or beyond its kind of saturated up there. and that allows some freezing to occur at that level. and that's the ice crystals rubbing up against each other. i lightning is what we're concerned about. dry lightning because it won't be much moisture with all of this to the ground. more likely to happen up in the mountains. however, with some scattered thunde

>>will continue >>turning now to all the latest headlines coming out of oakland kron 4 stephanie lin spoke with oakland mayor sheng thao. >>all right. so let's start with the recent attacks on more than a dozen seniors at wesley christian terrorists in oakland, we're talking about grandmothers, beaten and robbed in broad daylight. we know that police arrested at least one suspect, but they're not investigating this as a hate crime air. we know that all of the victims here are asian. so do you think this should be investigated as a hate crime? >>well, first and foremost, i want to say that this is completely unacceptable. i mean, we're talking about people who are so vulnerable. basically our parents or grandparents. we'll can all connect to that. and everyone has a right to safety in their own communities in their homes, getting out their vehicles. and it is our responsibility to protect the most vulnerable among us, including and especially i billy our elderly residents. and so i am grateful to the local police departments who have made several arrests. thanks to the people who have
