i'm stephanie lin. justine, back to you. >> stephanie, thank you. san jose mayor matt mahan is stepping up his efforts to get homeless people off the streets. he's now proposing that those who refuse help or any offers of help could be arrested. this is coming at a time when new data is showing on average one in 3 and house residence is refusing interim housing when it is offered mayor mahan says ensuring people accept shelter when offered has never been more critical. kron 4 charles clifford reports. >> well, the city of san jose led by mayor mahan has been pushing hard recently to reduce or eliminate homelessness on city streets. now the mayor is proposing to criminally charge people who repeatedly refuse help. >> i'm proposing that after 3 offers shelter. we hold people accountable for turning their lives around. >> san jose mayor matt mahan says that in his upcoming budget message, he will ask the city council to consider requiring unhoused residents to accept assistance from the city or face possible legal consequences. the mayor is calling it

i'm stephanie lin. >> we start with breaking news. chp investigating a possible shooting on highway 24 in orinda. it happened around 10, 30 this morning. all westbound lanes of highway 24 in the area were shut down but are now back open. officers were sweeping the highway for shell casings, west of camino pablo to the caldecott tunnel. no one was hurt. this comes one day after a driver was shot at on 8.80, in oakland. in the east bay, the oakland city council voted to reopen 3 closed fire stations. pope was charles clifford is live for us now in oakland with the details on charles. >> well, good afternoon. you know, since the beginning of the multiple fire stations, including fire station. 25, which is in the oakland hills, have been closed down. the firefighters in the trucks here been moved to other stations, but neighbors have been very worried about no response times. and what happens if there's a major fire here? well, the city council has decided this week to reopen the station and 2 others. on tuesday, the oakland city council

i'm stephanie lin. >> it's sunday march. the second let's get started with a look at the weather with kathy traffton. good morning, cathy. good morning, stephanie. it's sunday. >> got light showers moving across the bay area. >> it's an interesting day is a chance of thunderstorms, especially maybe in the south bay and the east bay and at the coast is not a great day to head to the coast because there's a high surf advisory in effect. it's because of long period. westerly swell that are supporting breaking waves of up to 20 feet. it is dangerous to swim in this water. it is also dangerous to surf in this water because we have very large sneaker waves that are possible. that means you could be walking on the beach on standing on the dock across jedi's and in and big lpwave to come out of just abou nowhere. seemed like it could sweep people off into dangerous cold waters. we have a rip currents that are quite possible also with this pattern. so today tomorrow, i think it's a good idea to maybe to stay away from the beach, but w

i'm stephanie lin. >> it's saturday and it's officially the first day of march. let's check in now with kathy trafton for a look at your weather. good morning, cathy. well, good morning, stephanie. well, what a great beginning to march and what a difference. february. and last week we had some record breaking temperatures, high temperatures even in the upper 70's to low 80's in some spots. we are not going see anything like that today or even for the rest of the workweek. because wet weather returns today. it's not going be a deluge. we do have some clouds moving in with have coastal clouds moving in with some fog forming. and when we have that clouds and fog, of course, overnight temperatures were not as cold, but we do keep things on the cool side as we try to warm up through all those clouds, current conditions, san francisco, 50 degrees, not much wind to speak of and temperatures across the entire bay area. now mainly in the 40's and 50's looking at 50 in oakland and also 44 in 46 degrees in santa rosa. so nice. start to the day. you'll see a lot of clouds at

kron four's stephanie lin talked to a woman who served with e san francisco fire department for more than 2 decades. she is now with the women's commission of the states firefighter joint apprenticeship committee. here's part of that interview. when i'm a black woman. >> this is there's not a lot of us. sometimes you do feel and maybe it's more self pressure that you put on yourself to give 1102200% honest job. it's not a job that is necessary catered towards women. and so you really want to prove you're there for your brothers and sisters. you want to do that, though. you want to show that you are worthy and a lot of times the pressure comes from within, not necessarily from outside places and i want to be the best that i can be. and so i put that pressure on myself. and i think a lot of the sisters that i work with in san francisco and across the country do that to ourselves. we want to be the best. >> horrible. celebrate remarkable women of the bay area. again, we'll do that on month. you can scan a qr code which i don't see right now. but it's on our website and we will have a ne
