stephanie rothman live in studio now to share how you can help dogs and cats that need a home. stephanie. >> that's right. after communities were forced to evacuate, some people are now returning back to their burned down homes and sadly, pets are also without a home. and this time of emergency shelters like the berkeley, humane society are helping their partners in butte county make room for these displaced animals. 25 cats and 10 dogs from chico animal shelter. remove the late last night. a berkeley, humane society. they were beyond needed help to clear up space for the animals coming in from the fire. there are of all ages and breeds and are ready to be fostered or adopted right now. and it's crucial because as we speak, animal shelters affected by the park fire will need a place to go with countless pets soon. flooding shelters, berkeley, humane society was already full volunteers and fosters help to make room for the animals like indigo, as you'll see. however, it's only a matter of time before they reach capacity once again. >> our super not just for animals like. indigo

i'm stephanie rothman. officials confirmed that the person killed today in a big rig crash was a longtime teacher in santa rosa. cardinal newman high school, former principal at cardinal newman confirms with kron for the person who was killed was pal of fortune before chain taught at cardinal newman from 1973 to 2019. he also served as a coach for various sports, including track and field cross country, baseball and football. the school's track is even actually names in honor of him. one former colleague says he's shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of his friend. and today's deadly crash happened around noon on westbound highway 12 in santa rosa. officers say the big rig did not stop as it was approaching the intersection at fulton road and created a chain reaction crash. chp says 11 cars were involved, one of them, a pickup truck caught on fire and 9 other people had to be taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. and berk

stephanie rothman joins us in studio to explain how stephanie. >> dan methadone is prescribed to help transition addicts off opioids helping the decrease. but advocates say it's not as successful as it could be. they're looking to remove barriers which would help save even more lives. according to the san francisco department, a public health, less than 40 people died from a drug overdose last month. that's down from 66 people in may looking year to year, it's 15% less in 2024. today compared to death in 2023. city health leaders say the drop in overdoses is largely due to drugs like the profane and that that don't currently in san francisco more than 2500 people received methadone through city clinics over recent years. federal restrictions have eased up for methadone, but that's not the case in california making it harder for a process for those who need it. >> under new federal laws, new methadone patients can get up to 72 hours or 3 days of methadone from a hospital or other health clinic. this allows them to start methadone treatment immediately. outside the operating hours of a

i'm stephanie rothman. top story tonight, city leaders in oakland hosted their first of several community around tables over the next week. the goal it's to listen to the community and hear their concerns over crime in oakland also telling the community what the police and fire departments are planning to do to make life better as kron. 4 shot moment shows us there was a heated debate over how to do just that. >>we can't wait, we can't wait for people to get her indicted for >>place he has gone. gerald somewhere has called oakland home for 70 years. he's no stranger to crimes in his community. he got his car stolen and now doesn't drive. this is the first time gerald says he's seen oakland's leadership like this all in one room. what do you what do you want to something that's going really work friday night. the city of oakland hosted the first of what's expected to be a series of community town halls. it also comes off a deadly week in the city. 5 people were killed in the last 7 days with 2 of the deaths
