i am chris jansing in for stephanie ruhle. it is thursday, august 29th. here's what's happening. hurricane dorian is growing stronger by the hour. now expected to explode into a monster category 3 storm sometime tomorrow. by labor day, it's expected to slam into the state of florida with winds of 125 miles per hour or worse. and while southern florida is well acquainted with these big storms, the part of north central florida currently in dorian's cross hairs has never been hit with a category 3 hurricane despite records going back nearly 170 years. we'll go to cape canaveral and the weather center. the entire state of florida is pretty much inside the cone here. tell me what's going on there. >> reporter: chris, good morning to you. that's right. the governor of florida has declared a state of emergency in 26 counties and asked folks to stock up on supplies that will last about seven days. folks are listening to that warning. yesterday we saw folks heading to the grocery store as they're stocking up on extra food and water. also hardware stores seeing their shelves cleared out.
