i'm stephanie sierra. >> the slick roads are making for some dangerous driving conditions. highway 237, in lafayette, reports show the sedan traveled off the highway into the rv, then slammed into a chain link fence. that's when the car went up in flames. the woman who lives in the rv, thankfully, was not hurt, but her vehicle was damaged in the north bay. this large tree came down on fourth street downtown, causing a power outage in santa rosa. firefighters showed up and cleared this tree within an hour, but they are warning people when power lines like this come down, treat them as if they're energized and call 911 and the next level two storm in route to the bay area is just hours away. francis, what's the latest on the timing? >> we've got about four more hours of dry weather as this storm moves towards the bay area, and right now we're seeing some clouds and a mix of even some blue skies as we show you live camera shot from sutro. temperatures are in the low 50s to mid 50s. san jose 56, san francisco 51 degrees. it's a level two storm today and tomorrow. moderate to he

abc7 news anchor stephanie sierra spoke with a local economist about what to expect, according to the bureau of labor statistics, the cost of store bought food increased by more than 23% from february 2020 to may 2023. >> why are prices staying high as inflation declines? >> the food prices that you mentioned, it has gone up at an annual rate of about 4.8. while we were expecting it to be not so high, and that actually has raised the rate of inflation, the general inflation, by more than what we expected. we expect it to be about maybe 2.9. the latest statistics shows that 3.1% right now, the cost of groceries vary drastically nationwide, as you were just pointing out and we know it's especially bad in the bay area. >> why is this? do you see this trend changing any time soon? >> bay area and in general, california, as you know, is the fifth largest economy uh- right below japan and germany. so we are a very rich area compared to the nation. for example, average salaries in berkeley is about 20% higher than the national average. unfortunate thing is that that kind of creates a feedbac

i'm stephanie sierra. let's get right to meteorologist lisa argen who's tracking the latest in the weather center. good morning lisa. >> good morning stephanie. this is a level one on our storm impact scale. so you're right. you have time today to prepare for what is going to be a lot of rain and wind. stronger than the last atmospheric river we saw last wednesday. here's a look at live doppler seven. you can see a few showers right along the coast there. we'll go in closer and you'll notice that we have them smattering about from the north bay here, just east of santa rosa, down through a big bend. highway 116 and petaluma. and also in san francisco, daly city, pacifica, down through montara, and then just off the coast here, pescadero moving into highway one, as well as the santa cruz mountains. so we will be looking at the rain throughout the morning hours. level one system, and then we'll be looking at things drying out a bit throughout the afternoon hours. so that is the good news. here we are with the

i'm stephanie sierra, lisa is here and hopefully some no rain. yeah, you know what? >> we're going to take a break for just a little bit and enjoy a lot of sunshine, temperatures above average today as we look at our satellite composite here, you'll notice that there is a system spinning offshore that will bring us some clouds tomorrow. as for today, we're starting out partly cloudy and a look at live doppler seven. quiet temperatures are milder 15 in oakland right now, fremont and san jose with 43 in sonoma and 44 in brentwood. so compared to 24 hours ago, we're anywhere from 2 to 6 degrees warmer. you probably feel it out there. and look at that view from mount tam just sparkling where we'll get into the mostly sunny conditions and 9:00 will be in the mid to upper 50 mid 60s for most of us by noontime. and look at the low to mid 70s arriving around the bay and inland. so we'll talk about the milder temperatures today and the cool off for the second half of the weekend and the return to the rain with my accuweather seven day forecast coming up. lisa thank you. >> we

i'm stephanie sierra. we're talking heavy rain, gusty winds, flood. watch. as you've been telling us all morning. yes. >> and a wind watch and wind warning getting into play tonight at about 10:00. when all those things go into effect. and it is anticipation of this area of low pressure which is in the left hand lower corner of your screen, it is going to rapidly develop and tap into this subtropical moisture and bring an atmospheric river to the bay area overnight, with some very strong and damaging winds potentially. here's a look at live doppler seven right now, and you can see just a little bit of rain there along the coast, from half moon bay to montara, over the richmond-san rafael bridge and then there's all that moisture to the south and west of us that moves in tonight. so level one system, scattered showers, slippery roads out there and the next couple of hours will feature less rain as you go through the 10:00 hour. it's still out there, but between noon and about 3:00 you can see a slight chance 10 to 20. but then it all ramps up as we go through

i'm stephanie sierra. we have team coverage for this level four storm this morning. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in san jose. but first we want to get right to the weather center where lisa is tracking the current conditions. good morning. >> good morning stephanie. we're looking at some light to moderate rain and the winds in the upper elevations have been strong. but there mixing down to the surface 50 miles an hour at napa, over 50 mile an hour. winds on top of mount diablo. that area of low pressure offshore, getting close to the california coast. th will enhance the winds and the downpours and thunderstorms throughout the day. today a wide area of light to moderate rain in the north bay. here's our sweep on top of mount saint helena. some colder air there and looking into the east bay. a bit of a break there, but some lighter rain from sunnyvale to san jose and from the santa cruz mountains looking at moderate rain. so this has been light. but by the seven 8:00 hour continues to pick up 45 mile an hour wind gusts in napa, upper elevations. we've
