nbc's stephanie stanton is in los angeles. okay, you see some really unusual things in the los angeles streets, but you usually don't see a space shuttle. >> reporter: yeah. typically not. this has been an incredible sight today. folks came out to essentially witness history. i am at the pit stop area. the first pit stop area. the shuttle has since moved on. let's take a live look at where it is right now. it's at the next stop, expected to be there for about six hours. now, you know, the city of los angeles has literally rolled out the steel carpet for the shuttle. they've laid down some 9,000 pounds of steel to reinforce the streets to handle the weight of this shuttle. the city has been planning this event for about a year. they've had to cut down several trees, remove a bunch of streetlights, all for "endeavour's" final mission. "endeavour" made its first stop about three and a half miles into the 12-mile journey to its final resting place at the california signs center. officials calling it a logistical pit stop. >> this
