i'm stephanie sy. it is now late in the evening in nepal. people are still pulling bodies of loved one from the rubble. the death toll has climbed to 2700 people and that number is likely to rise. 6500 people are injured. authorities are still trying to reach remote areas of western nepal. we're live in the capital kathmandu. so i understand that there are reports of another quake in the country's east. what can you tell us? >> yes those reports are coming from the u.s. geological survey around about 40 minutes ago when we heard that that an earthquake has hit 5.1 earthquake has hit the east of nepal. no reports at the moment of anybody having died or injured or what the damage is in that area. as we hear more we'll let you know. >> we know that it's been a challenging time for rescue workers because of the remoteness of some of these locations. do you know if rescue is going on even though it's dark there? >> it is my understanding that the rescue work continues. what we've seen over the last 36 hours is a large number of search and rescue

i'm stephanie sy. another boat filled with migrants has run aground in the mediterranean on the same day that european leaders are holding an emergency meeting. today's ship recognize happened off the southern coast of turkey. at least three people died after a boat carrying 200 migrants sunks. dramatic footage shows people being rescued from the waters, authorities say that the boat set sale from turkey. >> being battered by waves this is the latest group of my grants to watch up on the shores on the greek island. they are the lucky ones. three people already confirmed dead including a child. that number could increase. it's not known how many were on board the boat, which came from turkey. ing further west in malta bodies are being brought ashore. these are 24 men who drowned off the coast of libya off sunday. just a few of the hundreds of migrants that mr. on bother of the boat that capsized. a boat they thought would take them to a better light. this italian ship rescued survivors. they said that 9

i'm stephanie sy. police call it a mistake. the prosecutors in oklahoma say that they're considering charging a reserves deputy in the killing of a black unarmed man. this video has been made public and it says a lot. >> it says a lot. there is a lot going on in this story. 44-year-old issuing harris accused of selling an illegal gun to an undercover officer made a run for it when the police pulled him over. then this happened. >> the video from a police body camera. this is what you just heard. a gunshot rings out and a police officers says, oh, i shot him i'm sorry. the suspect said, he shot me, oh my god and explains he's losing his breath. the officer's reply. f your breath. the shooter was 73-year-old robert bates who meant to shoot harris with his stun gun but used his gun. harris was announced dead an hour later. this comes a week after the shooting of another unarmed black man in south carolina also shot by an officer when he started to run that was for being pulled over for a broken taillight. >>> this after another ma

sim stephanie sy. calm this morning in baltimore where a mandatory curfew seems to have kept most people off the streets. there were sporadic clashes. police in the national guard scuffled with a few dozen people. police made a few arrests. most are hopeful the peace will hold. >> reporter: it's palpable here it's a sunny crisp morning in baltimore at the junction of west, north and pennsylvania avenues. this was the epicentre monday night of the rock flowing and the looting and burning. and yesterday morning when we were together on the air there was a line of police blocking access to the rest of west-north avenue but not this morning, police pushed back to the corns of the square. you can see some behind me. the schoolkids are going back to school. the city has an air of being - not entirely but on the way of being back to normal. what about last night. as promised the police enforced a curfew at 10 o'clock. there was smoke pepper balls and tear gas. the feeling is that it could have been worse. >>

i'm stephanie sy. we are following breaking news. al shabab claiming responsibility for an ongoing attack at a kenyan university campus. 15 people have been killed, 50 injured. gunmen opened fire at a college dorm there overnight. some students are trapped on campus right now. al shabab said it released muslims and killed some christian students. malcolm webb is in garissa where the attack is taking place. >> just 100 meters down the road behind me is garissa university. we've been down there to the gates. you can hear heavy fighting inside. there's soldiers in the entrance. they wouldn't let us stay there. we've come back to here where crowds are gathering waiting to find out what will happen. we've spoken on the phone to a hostage inside and just managed to get out. he says there's at least 200 maybe 300 students inside there still trapped and taken hostage by the attackers. the attackers came about 5:30 in the morning just when people at the university of operating those who were muslim getting down

. >> this is aljazeera america live from new york city, i'm stephanie sy. the kremlin is warning the west about the arrival of u.s. troops in ukraine. u ambassador tweeted that the 173 brigade is on the ground. the soldiers are in the country to train ukrainian gal guard in the fight against pressure rebels but the kremlin says it could destabilize the region further. rory challands is live. what more can you tell us? >> the 173rd brigade of the u.s. army is usually based in italy. there was an agreement reached between the u.s. and kiev at the beginning of marsh to send these guys in. they are going to be there for a period of six months in total. there will be a couple of rotations in that time frame. they are going to be training the ukrainian national guard they're not the only foreign troops in ukraine at the moment. the british army already has about 75 military advisors who are rotating, as well, training in intelligence and battlefield medicine and the logistics. by the summer, we expect some 200 canadians to be in country as well. none of this goin

i'm stephanie sy. local officials calm it the worst damage they've ever seen, and the cleanup is just getting started after a tornado touched down in illinois west of chicago. one person was killed in fairdale in nearby rochelle, a restaurant was toppled over and more than a dozen people trapped inside. rescue teams overnight searched for the injured. let's go live in rochelle, illinois with the latest on the storms and cleanup. >> how much warning did residents have? >> well, stephanie we don't think that they got a whole lot of warning. it depends on the community. fairdale got very little warning, and so that could have been the reason that we had a fatality in that community. this storm hit in the heart of corn country and these rural areas are used to seeing tornadoes and very damaging storms like this, but a lot of people who lived in this area said they have never seen anything quite like this. this storm cut a swath of 50 miles and hit around 7:00 to 730, just as it was starting to get dark. em
