stephen: that's exactly what our map shows. when you zoom in, you can see clusters of cases along 580 in oakland, alameda county, from the intersection of fruitvale avenue southeast to malcolm avenue, the exit to the zoo. there were 31 shootings along those stretches. there's also a second cluster in oakland along 980, i-80, and 580, with 21 shootings in that area. also, i-80 in san pablo. and look at state route 4 from bay point through pittsburg to antioch in contra costa county, 23 shootings there. and a grouping of shootings on i-80 in vallejo in solano county, 15 shootings there. andrew: in the incidents that we have been able to really break down and look at the causes, our number one is targeted gang violence. stephen: sources tell us the reason for that are few witnesses, a vague crime scene, and an easy getaway. in fact, few of the cases are ever solved. of the 178 highway shootings handled by the chp in 2021, only 11%, about one in 10, ended with any kind of an arrest. the rate was similar in 2019 and 2020. and severa

stephen: it may never happen. my old currency strategists colleague had this great image of a dollar smile. i am sure he is smiling at me right now and trying to weasel my way out of --. tom: i don't mean to interrupt, but this is important. we have a resilient dollar, and most of us have gotten this wrong. at some point, the dollar breaks. what will be the event that we need to watch for where we see the dollar break? stephen: personally, i think the dynamic is still there, in terms of the current account, the domestic savings rate. they are all pointing to dollar weakness. they have not played out in a. of geostrategic uncertainty, and if we ever get through this war, once we are on the others of geostrategic uncertainty, the dollar fundamentals will reassert themselves. it will not be the end of the world. not the demise of the dollar, the status is the reserve currency. but the dollar has three major corrections since the early 1970's, and they are big ones. the average close to 30% on a trade-weighted basis.
