adam: in the words of stephen guilfoyle, this is ugly. let's pull up the charts again. we did hit the session low three minutes ago, close to 330 points up, we broke through 300 points on the dow in the last 25 minutes. on the s&p 500 it was 45 minutes ago we broke through the level of 2147 and we have been pushing negative ever since, the nasdaq down 2%, nasdaq will wind up closing this week, two of the last we 3 weeks it has been down, dow and s&p the last four weeks so this is being attributed to comments from eric rosenkranz in boston. he gave a speech in which he said, quote, a reasonable case can be made, he goes on, for tightening interest rates when the fed meets september 20th and 21st. that might be a reasonable comment but not a reasonable reaction in different markets. we are watching a cell of inequities and treasuries, the 10 year treasury yield is up 1.7%, the highest it has been post brexit. the vicks up 30%, federal funds, putting chances of interest rate with the federal reserve 18%. that meeting again september 20th and 21st. oil, we had dramatic news

olivia blonde chart and julian robertson and on the other side, people like adam pozen and ken rogoff. is it a question, stephen, of not negative rates but not having the courage and will to do negative rates the correct way? i don't know what the answer is to that question in terms of what is the correct way to do negative rates. i think there are different levers of monetary policy. on the regulatory, monetary and fiscal side that all may to work in conjunction. but one of the issues that we are faced with is that a lot of the decisions are not taken in coordination. they are not taken in coordination domestically from a domestic policy perspective and on a global basis. globalot taken in a fashion. particularly when global trade is weak, there is a tendency of national authorities to revert to turning inwards rather than outwards. and so this is the situation we are in. banks, idea that central despite the fact that there may be more central stimulus in the pipeline down the road, the idea that central banks will then step away from the accelerator in my opinion is not correct. every single amount of fiscal
