weijia jiang has more on the funeral of brian stephenson. >> reporter: good afternoon, don and everyone. detective stevenson was killed a few hours before his birthday and you can see a packed parking lot and nearly a thousand people are gathered to celebrate his life. >> reporter: whether they knew him or not, whether they were friends or colleagues. hundreds of members of the police force came together to pay their respects to the veteran. he was killed last weekend and he leaves behind a wife and four children. >> a wonderful person. he always helped other people. it's a tragedy, if you trust in god, he'll turn this into triumph. >> reporter: he's a retired city officer who worked with stephenson, one of the many who came to this new church for his funeral. he was killed last weekend over what the investigators describe as a fight.

detective brian stephenson was killed a week ago today while out celebrating what would have been his 38th birthday. police a stevenson and a group of people got into a fight over a parking space. he was hit in the head with a piece of concrete. he died a short time later at shock trauma. he is one of three deaths within the department in just the last month. a high school staff member has been charged with attempting to sell a gun on the school campus in baltimore. police say the 33-year-old was arrested when he tried to sell the gun to a school police officer. the school had notified baltimore police about the proposed gun deal and the transaction was arranged on a day when students were not in school. he is due to appear in court on november 60. it is on cummingtonite foregone of high-school, despite an overnight break in. -- it is all coming tonight fort dundalk high school. baltimore county police are investigating. bengals did extensive damage, including graffiti. there is no word on the suspects involved. nearly two dozen families are without a home and one person is dead after
