then steve tried to devise a plan to cover up the crime. he saw the parked car alongside the highway and decided to stage an accident. he got the jeep into position moved his seat back with his bloody hands, and made sure his seatbelt was fastened while deborah's wasn't and then braced himself for impact. the jeep traveled 130 feet at 40 miles per hour directly into the back, left side of the parked car. deborah's arm and bloody sweater struck the windshield, proof that she was bleeding before the crash. after the crash, steve tried to break the side window to make the crash look worse, but a passing motorist stopped before steve could do it. >> i'm convinced he tried to cover it up. whether he had that figured out before he assaulted her and tried to kill her, i believe he did come up with a plan to cover it up and to make it look like she died in the car crash. >> at the trial, steve pleaded not guilty. he admitted striking deborah during an argument, but said he was driving her to the hospital for treatment when the accident occurred. th

we turn back to our two panelists jared bernstein and steve moore. we're waiting for mr. so forth and connected. let me go to you, jared. first up, you had a few remarks, where, in the "new york times" today? what's your beef here? seven rates down to two, the tax rates themselves come down, both personal and corporate. this sounds like classic 1986 pro-growth reagan rostenkowski. why aren't you for this? >> there's a lieutenant of this that i like. what i put down in my piece is that it has one fundamental flaw. i'm glad we're getting to it before you talk to congressman camp. the flaw is that it's probably not really revenue neutral and certainly not in the second ten years. there's about four timing gimmicks that pull revenue forward in the first decades, and lose it in the second one. i'm worried about revenue neutrality, and he won't achieve it in the second decade. >> but steve moore, i'm pretty impressed the joint tax committee is scoring this in a dynamic way, lower rates produce a lot more economic growth, a lot more revenues. in fact they have 1% to 1.5% higher

steve? >> scott, thanks very much. i'm here with john williams in town from san francisco for a speech this evening with the money marketeers. let's atalk about what's is on everybody's mind, the recent data the two disappointing jobs reports. you've had not only a bad retail sales report but marked down all of the way back to november. how much concern do you have for the data, how weak is the data in your opinion? >> definitely the employment data were a little weaker than we're expected for last couple of months and retail sales as you mentioned. i think first of all from monetary policy point of view it's important to take a medium term view and over the past six months we've been getting almost 180,000 jobs a month in the employment reports. and unemployment keeps coming down. so i agree that the recent data has been somewhat disappointing. i think weather has been an important factor. people are discussing that a lot. a lot of research is going on on that. i'm out here in new york because in california we don't s

on the technicals, steve pyler and steve cortez. it just the turmoil in the e.m. that's creating this flight to safety? >> you know, i don't think so. i think one of the reasons gold did so poorly last year is actually because of emerging markets. the marginal demand for gold tends to come out of emerging markets, particularly china. china had a very tough year. so gold did as well. now, it's had a nice bounce, very nice bounce so far in 2014 but it's really not that material when you put it in the context of last year's performance. if you bought it a year ago today you're still down almost 20% in gold. i believe in gracie gold, the american skater. i do not believe in gold as an investment. the main reason, we don't see inflationary pressures primarily because wages are just too constrained. wage gains have been tepid at best. that's not the recipe for an inflationary gold rally. >> cortez is not a buyer. let's get to the fundamentals. it might be heartening that on friday, gold closed above the 200 day moving average for the firs
