steve centanni leads our coverage from d.c. start with ohio. >> reporter: right, ohio, very important, as you just mentioned, republicans continuing to dominate the buckeye state this year amid widespread dissatisfaction with president obama. when asked if the election were held today who would you vote for, 36 percent said obama, and 54 percent said they'd support an unnamed republican. so quite a wide margin there with the republicans dominating, obama simply not very popular right now in ohio. a very contentious contest underway for governor in that state in which republican challenger john casi -- kasich, congressman, holds a five-point lead over governor ted strickland, 47 percent to 42 percent, kasich's advantage, and his advantage has been five or six points, while the last week in september, law strickland's poll within two points. but worrisome for strickland should be the nine percentage points who remain undecided in that race. history show undecideds, very important, especially this late in the game. and jobs, of co

steve centanni live for us in washington with more details. officials not identifying the five german nationals killed in the u.s. drone attack along the pakistan-afghani border on monday. four of them are of turkish descent according to the television. this attack is taking place 12 miles east of the main town of the north tribal district of pakistan. u.s. officials believe the cell of german and british citizens with freedom of movement in and out of europe are behind the latest terror plot against europe. u.s. drone attacks, as you know, have intensified along that border region in recent weeks. a u.s. travel warning was issued on sunday because of this european plot. it didn't name any particular european countries but fox news has learned from western intelligence sources that famous tourist locations in france and germany are possible targets. the white house says all this is no cause to change travel plans. >> many of them are listed on the web site with the alert. this is not a warning, travel warning telling people not to go. this is s

jon: steve centanni, union station in d.c., thank you steve. jenna: well, now to politics. exactly four weeks from today, voters go to the polls, and democrats worry about a shift in the balance of power at the state level. specifically, the loss of six or more governor seats. james rosen is live in washington with more on this story. so james, why are these governor races so important this time around? >> reporter: well, this isn't just any midterm election cycle, jenna. it's one whose year ends in '10, meaning it unfolds concurrently with the census, and therefore the outcome in these 37 gubernatorial contests being decided this fall will in turn play a huge role in shaping the outcome of next year's process for redrawing the congressional map known as redistricting. so take a close look at a governor's race like the one in california, where indeed the race is close between attorney general jerry brown, he maintains a small statistically insignificant lead over former ebay executive meg whitman, it's in a state that has 53 seats in congress and where the state legislature

steve centanni, live in washington for us now, with a brand new fox news poll from those states. so which races, steve, are giving republicans the most hope for regaining the senate? >> reporter: in the senate, republicans are holding slim leads in two states where senate seats are currently held by, that's nevada and washington, and the republican is gaining ground in connecticut. so there is increased hope this morning for republicans looking to take over the senate. let's look first at nevada, where a single majority leader harry reid is fighting to hang on to his seat against republican rival sharron apgle, the new fox poll shows angle has a two-point lead over reid, she's been ahead consistent ly since september 18th but not by more than the three-point margin of error for this poll. in washington state the two candidates, patty murray and dino rossi are neck and neck, rossi has a one point lead at this point. in connecticut, democrat dick blumenthal stays out front with 49 percent to sharon mcmahon's 43 percent but she's seen his lead erode and she's gaining ground. jon: wha
