we'll listen to steve ford tell the story of that intervention as the family realized the extent of betty ford's problem with alcohol and with drugs. >> you know, i think we sense something during the presidency. we didn't know the combination of alcohol and pain medications produced a cocktail that, at times, took away some of her sharpness and those kinds of things, but eventually, it had to play out. i mean, it had to get to the other side of the presidency where i think it created a time for mom after the presidency where she was not first lady anymore. she was out in california. dad was traveling again a lot, and building a new home, kids were -- they were all gone, and slowly, over months and months and months, she developed a melancholy, turnedded into depression, pulled back from life, canceled appointments, and not showing up, sleeping in late, slurred speech, all those things. that takes months. we didn't know what we were looking at. i mean, we were like millions of other families that, what's wrong with mom? it was not the education about alcoholism and drug dependency that th

ford plan. it is the centerpiece of the carmakers turnaround. name mentioned as a possible replacement for the outgoing ceo of microsoft, steve ballmer. many are speculating this could be the culmination of his time at ford, but that is not necessarily so, said mullally himself. bloomberg sat down with him earlier today to talk about his plans. >> you have always told me in the past, i'm going to stay in -- until at least 2014 to reach to the end. >> there is no change in that. me is matt miller and cory johnson. i posted your interview with mullally on twitter and a lot of people are saying to my can't tell if that is a no or a not yet. what do you think? it is noncommittal, and really a nonanswer, especially compared to what i've gotten from him in the past. this speculation has been out there for months and months. and usually, every time the story breaks again, i will e- mail alan and he is the kind of ceo that gets right back to you. he has always said, i plan on serving ford as the ceo and president until at least the end of 2014. a pretty solide answer. he's not reiterating it that way anymore. now he just says "no comment," or

steve ballmer. the list also includes microsoft ,xecutives, ford ceo alan lally and there are concerns about his lacktechnology experience. it has been a tough week for eads. they announced nearly 6000 job cuts. it is hoping a new plan to keep things simple will turn things around. joining me now is jonathan ferro. they are basically trying to embrace the market. they are saying, this is what we want to achieve. let me be more focused. >> this is a company that wants to go where the success is right now. the european aeronautics and defense company, you and i will not have to keep saying that name in january. it will be known as airbus. that is a name we recognize. you refocus the brand and simple five the structure of this business. we are talking about going where the success is. it has not been on the defense side of the business. the primary reason for that is because governments are cutting back on the budget for the defense spend. they are stepping away from that business. they are shrinking it. you step away from that and go to where the success is and they have some hefty financial targets to
