and fox ease own steve harrigan is in kiev in ukraine with the very latest on the investigation of flight7. steve. >> reporter: sean, one of the real challenges in finding out exactly what happened from this site of the tragedy about 25 miles from the border with russia in eastern ukraine is it's still a hot war zone. there's still gunfire going off, the sound of russian-made grad missiles as well. this has gotten in the way of some european crash site experts from making their way to the scene. they're saying they're not being allowed to do their job to carry out an independent investigation because they're being hindered by the russian-backed rebel fighters. of course this investigation is what multiple world leaders are really calling for at this point. the problem is it's a war zone there. the real problem here too in the capital of ukraine is a white hot anger. and there's no doubt here as to where that anger is directed, squarely at russia. you have ukrainian leadership pointing to russia saying this has been an act of terrorism by the russian government sponsoring these rebels. and

. >> and for the very latest on what's happening at the crash site, we turn to steve harrigan standing by in the ukraine. steve. >> reporter: sean, after days of really agonizing delays, some small steps forward on the ground. malaysia's prime minister saying he's reached an agreement with the rebel leadership here, those rebels backed by russia, to turn over the black boxes, those flight data recorders. also some progress on the bodies, those passengers making their way home. that voyage has finally begun. refrigerated train cars have left rebel controlled territory near the crash site making their way north to ukrainian controlled territory. those bodies more than 280 of them as well as the remains from perhaps a dozen more passengers will be flown to amsterdam. there the dna testing will begin for identification purposes. those bodies eventually being sent back to their countries, back to their families after an agonizing wait. but the situation on the ground here, especially where i am, the city of donetsk, city of a few miles from that crash site, shows how difficult it is to carr

steve harrigan live for us in kiev, ukraine. steve. >> reporter: gretchen, for the second day in a row, international experts trying to reach that crash site had to turn around due to fighting. it was more than 30 dutch unarmed police officers, as well as australians trying to make their way to provide security so the investigation of that crash site could really begin. unfortunately, most of the international experts haven't even reached the crash site 11 days in. that's due to heavy fighting. that 13-square mile crash site zone is the front line in a battle between ukrainian government forces, as well as russian-backed rebels. both sides have heavy artillery and tanks so it is really a fight there and a non-starter for those experts trying to reach the scene. the russians continue to deny helping the rebels in any way, either supplying them with weapons or direct firing into the fight. this despite recently released satellite images by the u.s. state department which assert that russia is firing its own rockets from russian ter
