steve hayes, stand stand. jeff"weeklystandard." jeff, start with you. you travelled around.aping up for tuesday? >> my sense is more people are engaged in this, than you can imagine. the intensity and the scale of the presidential campaign. in the combines of wisconsin. i'm struck by it. usually when you talk to voters in wisconsin or iowa or places like this, they are happy to tell you what they think. i found voters are not inclined to say what they think. some neighbors have different point of view. it's not leslie falling along the republican and democrat lines. i run into democrats that don't love scott walker and say they think the recall would start a bad trend. it's a close race and walker has an edge. but it is who is going to come out and vote tomorrow. it always is, but in this case who gets the supporters out. >> bret: the state is projecting a record turn-out. we'll see if it develops on tuesday. emotions are high. you were at the event. a union person has reforms. >> get out the vote by jesse jackson and other people before him and ahead of the union, compared

steve hayes stan "weekly standa" welcome craig gilbert for "milwaukee sentinel journal."ig, the sense of today from exit polls and what we hear anecdotally throughout the state? >> it underscores the intensity and the deep division in the state. what i see in system of the exit polling is people for example aren't just divided over the collective bargaining but they are deeply divided. everybody is either very approving or very disapproving of how governor walker handled the issue. the other striking thing is nobody decided late in this race. if you look at the numbers, everybody decided some time ago. very few voters decided in the last few days. >> bret: steve, we knew turn-out would be big. the state was predicting 60 to 65%. we don't have all the numbers but clearly the state was energized. >> yes. it sounds like that number is going to be accurate. maybe even slightly low depending on what happens in the last couple of hours. you're hearing report all morning. i talked to someone votes in town of wharton, heavily pro-walker town and votes every election at lunchtime.

stephen hayes, fox news contributor, how you doing, steve? good morning to you. >> morning, bill. bill: a couple things i want to go through here quickly. do you see a last minute deal between holder and these republicans in the house? >> you know, i think that's unlikely. i think if we would have seen that, we would have seen holder having within more a-- been more agreeable to some kind of deal before invoking executive privilege. i think we've gone beyond that. bill: how many democrats vote with republicans? do you have a guess on that? >> very few. i expect this to be almost a strictly party line vote. it's possible one or two democrats, i be i think it's -- but i think it's likely to be a party line. bill: okay, so you have this executive privilege hanging out there. what happens after the contempt vote? do they compete? >> yeah, this is the question. procedurally, it goes to the courts, of course. but the question is how much do republicans want to really force the challenge on the executive privilege indication. do they want to really press that argument? do they want to fo

steve: so the message is, according to carville, mr. president, nobody really believes that things are getting better despite your best efforts to spin that. steven hayesecial report" had this observation about the pickle the president is in right now. >> the reason you're seeing president obama's numbers erode on this is because he campaigned as the man to fix it. he gave specific speeches, specific times as a candidate, promising to fix the economy. he came in, he had a democratic congress for two years. he passed what he said he was going to do to fix the economy and here we are three years later and it hasn't turned around. >> steve: that's the problem. >> gretchen: the reason they keep going back to blaming bush is some sort of polling must be telling them that works. you know, that's a very apt point that steven hayes just said, but it must be working to continue to go back to that old message or they wouldn't do it. that's the bottom line. >> brian: right. i would say that might have been right six months ago, maybe five months ago and he felt strong about it in february. but chow this possibly be the mantra you'll run for the next 4 1/2 months
