joining me now is the chairman of the dccc, steve israel of new york. good to have you with us. >> great to be with you. >> this is a very detailed response, has to be a detailed response because there is a lot of environmental issues that play in this decision. it's hard to fit it in a 15 second sound bite about killing jobs. what is your response? >> look, this is the latest twist and turn in the congress of chronic chaos. this has nothing to do with the pipeline, this has to do with the house republicans doing everything they can using every excuse they can to block a middle class tax cut. ed, when in the history of tax cuts did the republicans ever impose a condition? but when it comes to a middle class tax cut to help working families, suddenly they won't do it unless they get a pipeline. you can't approve a pipeline unless you can prove it's safe they are not interested in proving it's safe. >> is there a chance the president might go along with the pipeline, just won't shoot from the hip? >> that is right. did they forget the bp pipeline in the g

we have steve israel to discuss that strategy.n easy climb but you are looking at seats where they have flipped the last time and also those that have been close, that you have tried repeatedly to gain, what makes you think you can do it this time, especially, congressman, with 84% of people saying they hate congress, how do you persuade people to go with the democrats? >> reporter: it's tr-- it's tru that they could be angry. republican congress has been against middle class tax cuts and been presiding of the taking down of the the middle class, voters are smart, they will hold the republican congress accountable for those wrong priorities and bad choices -- >> last year, congressman, haven't voters, in most cases blamed both parties, pretty even handedly for the mess that has be been congress? >> voters only have to go back a week when we said we want a full year extension of the payroll tax cut and the republicans said know. all they have to do is go back and look at their republican member of congress to see how they voted. di

joining miss is steve israel, chair of the triple -- the president kills a plan to create 20,000 jobs. is this a problem for you? >> not at all. the american people are smart enough to know this is more about partisan politics from a congress of chronic chaos. they haven't created a job, they haven't created an idea. it's just another partisan ploy. what was the ploy? they connected this pipeline to a middle-class tax cut when in the history of tax cuts did republicans ever condition one on something else. i don't remember them saying only if there's a pipeline. >> what does this mean, do you think realistically? >> the republicans have to make a choice, and the choice has to be made before the end of february. do they want to continue to defend to the death million snares? or are they willing to defend the middle class, by asking oil companies to give up some of their subsidies? or ask medicare beneficiaries to give up their support? that's what this election is all about. choices, priorities, rebuilding the middle class. >> you can hear this theme echoing on the congressional level,
