joining me now at the big board, nbc news national political correspondent steve kornacki so talk about played out 11 point win, was that a sur surprise was that expected? >> it was a bit of a surprise because we're used to wisconsin elections being razor thin in the preliminary round when a bunch of candidates ran, there was an advantage there these are officially partisan elections but the democratic aligned candidates had been in the mid-50s. the republican-aligned candidates were in the mid-40s we knew daniel kelly needed to make up ground, the conservative candidate in the race. in 2024, we're going to be spending a lot of time talking about wisconsin as a swing state. it's hard to see a republican winning the white house in 2024 without carrying wisconsin there are troubling trends for republicans you see on the map last night w.o.w. counties, washington, waukesha, ozaukee. tra dugsally they have been huge sour -- traditionally they have been huge sources for republicans, in the age of trump, moving away from republicans take a look. you can see it here. waukesha county, the bigge

let's bring in steve kornacki at the big board. steve, what do those poll numbers tell us?d be very unpopular with voters. joe biden's approval rating is at 41% approval in our poll, 54% disapproval. compare that to just a couple months ago, this is a tick below where he started the year. he was 45/50 at the start of the year now 41/54. one thing driving this is you ask about approve/disapprove on the economy. biden continues to have a 38% job approval on the question we did the take the temperature of the republicans nationally. you see trump leading here you see desantis, the only one of the over at this moment potential of announced opponents of trump getting any traction here, desantis running 15 points behind trump everybody else, including mike pence, running back in single digits i think one notable thing we found in this poll is we asked republican leaning ing voters specifically about these legal issues of trump and their attitude towards them. should in light of these legal issues should you look for somebody to run in 2024 who's not distracted, somebody different
