let's bring in steve kornacki and his big board.now how this might play in november? >> there's two ways of looking at this, and maybe split this into two parts. start with the trial itself. that's what we do have polling for, we're waiting, obviously, on the reaction to the verdict. but for six weeks now there's been a trial, testimony, witnesses, there have been extensive media coverage, and we do have some polling to show what, if any, impact the trial itself had in the presidential race. so here's a way to look at that. two polls here from queen peaia. both pollsters took polls that ended a few days ago. so they basically polled people at the end of the trial, before the verdict, but end of the trial. and you think you can see, it really didn't move the needle. in one biden's lead goes from three to two, he lost a point. in the other biden goes -- tied and then biden is ahead by one. basically, no change there is what you see when you put those together. and you also see that in the average of all the polls that were out there.

joining me now with a preview, nbc's steve kornacki.c churchill downs louisville, kentucky. steve, i don't know that people understand that you are obsessed with this, that every year you go to the -- you're not just the political big board guy, you're the horse guy, and you're talking numbers. what are the odds this year? who are the favorites? who's your favorite? >> well, you're right, kate, i love being down here, it's one of the luckiest things. i think, getting to do what i do is to be here, you see the anticipation, and you can probably hear it around me, we're still a day away from the big one, big crowd out, anticipation building, if you're looking at that field tomorrow, 20 horses, it's massive, how do you make sense of it? the two favorites, the two horses likely to make the most betting, one named fierceness, fierceness is an interesting horse, when fierceness has won races so far, he's been absolutely dominant, has looked totally unstoppable, and seems better than any other horse in this field, the problem with fierceness i

i spoke to nbc news national correspondent steve kornacki about predictions and odds, so we'll have our mint juleps. i'll be wearing the big hat from home, but let's just talk about the odds. like if i'm going to place a bet, my trifecta or win place or show, who should i be putting my money on? yeah, i think just a couple things maybe to keep in mind if you're just, you know, looking at this field and trying to make sense of it. i mean, it is 20 horses. that's the only time this year there's going to be a 20 horse race in this country. fierceness is going to probably be the favorite in this race, he's drawn a post position. he's in the 17th position at the starting gate kind of way out there, that hasn't been too successful in the past. the concern for fierceness, you know, is simply that being that far out there could cost him important position early, could get lost in the in the shuffle. but if he doesn't, he's gng to be hard to beat. you never know. right. long shots have won two. we remember two years ago when rich strike. yes won as an 80 to 1 long shot. yes. you can watch all of
